I have watched a number of Nikon bodies show up on sale lists from major vendors and Nikon USA, but have never seen a sale or markdown of the Df on domestic (USA) models. It doesn't seem all that popular, but still costs the original MFR list price. Finding a lightly used USA model body for a decent price is also no box of chocolates either.

Davey if the Holiday sales do not meet their projections, you should see price reductions in 2019

It is a marketing decision. It appeals to a niche market that they may think is price
insensitive. They don’t want to compete with their other products.
Sort of like Leicas.

The Df JUST went out of production this past July. Possible replacement in 2019, the current model will discount when close to being declared discontinued.
Hi Davey!
Before I bought the Df I asked myself one question. Will Nikon ever put the Df on sale so that I can buy a new Df for less than the $2749 if I was willing to wait? After a month of thinking I decided that they won't and I bought it a month after Nikon introduced it. I was willing to wait for years if I can get a brand new one for less. And NO I don't want a used or refurbished.
If you're after the Df only for its low light performance then perhaps you would do better by getting a D4/D4S. I bought the Df for its controls.

I dont know if this fits your definition of "sale" but Nikon has a refurbished one.

The Nikon Df is a Niche camera with limited production. It is aimed at a limited market. It was marketed and designed as a nostalgic throw back to famous Nikon film camera's. Look at a Nikon FM
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-FM-As-Is-Condition-1115/302991144809?hash=item468badf769:rk:1:pf:0, now, take a look at the Df. Case closed.
The guts of the Df is basically a D4. Don't get me wrong, the Nikon Df is a really nice camera. A little too old technology speaking for my taste but the owners of these camera's are very loyal and love them. They still provide excellent images and will continue to do so for many many years.
If you want one, your lowest prices will be found when Nikon puts 10% off refurbished ones or used from ebay.
For my money I would buy a Nikon D4s. I just bought a mint D3s (a low light genius) mint off ebay with a shutter count of 3800 for $1200.00 in the box. I am having a great time with this camera, no, it does not look like a famous film Nikon camera, but the images are true Nikon.
Probably because it doesn't have to. Their production, sales, and profits are right where Nikon wants them to be.

I would contact Nikon and ask them. I doubt you will get any clarity on this. Anything you read here is pure conjecture.
