Mirrorless cameras

Do I understand this correctly. Without getting technical, from what I am reading, I can take a mirrorless camera with a lens adapter for my Nikon lenses and get an increase from a 300mm lens to nearly a 600mm equivalent? Something like that. I'm sure something is lost there but it sounds interesting. Any comments?

Not sure about the camera you are talking about, but on a cropped camera( DX) most are close to 1.5 on the crop factor. So a 300 will be close to 450.

The crop factor on a DX Nikon is 1.5, on. Canon is 1.6 and on mirrorless like Olympus and Panasonic it is 2.0 so yes. Olympus makes an adaptor that allows for use of Nikon lenses on Olympus mirrorless like the PEN 3 and the new E-M5 but you lose AF. I have Nikon Glass and some D3s and an E-M5 and the adaptor is on my list of things to add to my kit. That said I have the Panasonic 100-300 that I use on the E-M5 with effective reach of 200-600 and it's very sharp and size wise a much better match for the much smaller E-M5 body.

The Nikon 1 V1 and J1 mirrorless cameras have a 2.7X crop factor and you can use Nikon F mount lens with them when you use the Nikon FT1 adapter. You only get auto focus with AF-S lens. I use my Nikon 1 V1 with a Nikon 600mm lens and 2X teleconverter to get the equivalent of 3240mm. If I tweak the focus in zoomed live view I can get a very good image.

I would love to see a photo of that set up!!! That's a lot of glass on a little body. Must be able to get a 1:1 shot of a gnat on the arse of an elephant at 100 yards :-D

Talking about the Nikon V1 Yesterday I was looking at www.nikonusa.com which is the Nikon site and they have the Nikon J2 for sale. Prices are lower than the J1. Hope the D7100(when it comes out) is cheaper than the D7000.

Thanks to all. I thought I was reading that correctly. Sounds very tempting to try although not exactly cheap but may be cheaper than the long lens I'd like to have :)
