How could someone work for the government ignoring that New Mexico is a State of the Union? How are those people hired to jobs that require not only common sense but also a certain level of education?

How about the school principal that tried outlawing candy canes last week? We know there is a bell curve of smarts but would hope that people hired into responsible jobs are somewhere near the middle of it.

No out of the ordinary for our educational system. For instance, I live in Iowa 180 miles west of Chicago. I needed to exit I-88 in the Western Chicago Suburbs to stay at a motel, and I asked the front desk person which exit I should use. She asked where I was coming from; I said Iowa. She replied, "Where's that". When I then responded Aurora (the next suburb to the west) she could tell me where to exit. Go figure.

I live in Idaho. I can’t count how many respond with, “How do you like living in the midwest”. I respond, “OK, if you think west of Montana and Wyoming is mid”.

At least they know Iowa is in the midwest...

You understand we're talking about Washington D.C. here. The way this country is run, it is not at all surprising that staff at the DMV there wouldn't know that N.M. is a state. I mean, look who's in the White House.

The president and executive branch have nothing to do with running the District of Columbia. Guess your education missed that?

Just another example of the tragedy, we will be seeing this all over the country now. Manger scenes removed and prohibited. The agenda of these Marxist inspired people is to destroy and remove any Christian and Jewish heritage and historically cultural links to our past by brain washing our children. I am being 'churchy' or political or whatever. It is just the facts. I just observe it. I love history, if we do not learn form it we will fail. Thanks for the reply.

I think you will find there are some very smart people in Washington. How else do you think the US, and the world, will survive when nobody can afford petrol anymore, food is scarce, temperatures are up, too many people from Asia (because that is where the populations are still growing), etc. Best starting to dumb down the population now before it is too late and anarchy takes over. Believe me it is not just happening in the US.

Back when I was in High School we had at least a 1/2 semester of geography. There has been none for quite some time. When people think Alaska and Hawaii require passports, none of this is a surprising. Of course, those who live on the east coast generally know little about the west unless they have lived there in the past.

While I was negotiating the purchase of a CanAm Spyder in Pennsylvania, the salesman writing up the deal started adding the state sales tax. I told him that I did not have to pay the PA sales tax because I lived in Maryland, he looked up at me and said "well, that's in Pennsylvania, isn't it?". After that, I dealt only with the store manager.

I don’t know which is crazier here - that a Marylander doesn’t have to pay sales taxes when they buy something in Pennsylvania or the salesmen thinking Maryland was in Pennsylvania.

Indeed, this is an example all over the country of how we allowed our school (fool) systems to fail our children. I raised three sons. I removed them from the public fool system and placed them in a charter school. At that time it was much better they were actually taught how to think objectively. Today I have no idea how that is holding out, this was 20 years ago. I do feel good when I run into a young person who is really on the ball and I tell them so. They know they are not being taught history, civics, math, how read and write. But they know how to embrace Socialism and bash our country. Young people who are not brain washed and brain dead drones need and love to hear encouragement knowing they are not alone.
Last week-end I ran up to the local Office Depot to get some old photo's scanned and printed. Yea it was a last minute thing for my parents 70th anniversary.
The young lady working the photo and printing dept. could not open the folder on either of my two flash drives. So I bought one there and copied it over and she was able to then pull them up. I said I want these 4 printed as 8x10's and the rest standard 5x7's.
I had to explain twice what i wanted. She finally got it. I laughed it off.
After post processing and old photo which was under exposed, I returned the next day morning to get that one printed but their printer was once again broke.
I told her I really appreciated her help and the work she did was lovely. I admired her attitude too. She looked at me started glow ! This threw her off. She told me she was not used to compliments but negative responses from customers and work mates. I made her day.
The only thing we can pray for is that eventually these dumb-asses will wake up and learn how to use their brain. I will excuse the lady I just mentioned from this comment. But yes, there are too many uneducated people today. Lenin, Marx, Mao, Castro, must all be rolling over laughing their asses off and back slapping each other on how quick and easy it was to bring down the American people and western civilization and move toward world wide globalist communism. Oh well, let's lay this on Trump too. Hey Trump, leaves are falling in Texas ! I want my summer back. Well I hope this is enough to chew on folks.
Indeed, this is an example all over the country of... (show quote)

I went to public school, my siblings and my friends and my son went to public school and we all did fine. A teacher can be the finest they can be and some students just don’t learn, can’t learn, or refuse to learn (the “You can lead a horse to water . .” principle). Lack of adequate funding for public schools, poverty, and lack of parental involvement are THE factors in poor student performance - not failings of the teaching staff. For profit charter schools are just that - for profit and not education. So quit your ranting and whining about how poor your public schools are and get involved by advocating for adequate funding for public education.

I moved to New Mexico from Oregon in 1979. Everyone I worked with thought I was moving to a foreign country.
"No," I said. "It's New Mexico."
"Yeah? Which part of Mexico is that?"

Students can only learn what they are taught. The emphasis in teaching now-a-days is to get them to pass the required tests. In California, geography is no longer taught in favor of the subjects that the tests require. Not sure if it is taught in grade school either. As an example of good teaching, the 1/2 semester of geography stuck well enough to last for 55 years so far. However, I did have some geography in grade school as well. When it is taught it is a subset of Social Studies.
