Chief, a fantastic set and the first time I have seen a GBH eat a mouse.

Greg

Thank you, Greg. I was informed that it was a vole. Much bigger than a mouse.

Very interesting. I had no idea this kind of bird could dine on a big rat.

Yep, very interesting to me too. I'm told it was a vole.

Great capture!! I guess it's a surf and turf type of GBH. Gary

Thank you, gwr. Can you blame him? Surf and turf is the way to go.

Way to be at the right place/time.
Nice!

Thanks, timm. I almost always have a camera with me. First for me too.

Talk about being at the right place at the right time! And at first I thought that might be a rat. I hope it is. They are too plentiful. We have those beautiful gracious birds here too. I didn’t realize they eat rodents! Did you have to wait a long time for this to happen? I find often I get tired before anything happens. I guess you were really lucky that day. Congratulations on an unforgettable collage.

Thanks very much, Toni. I almost always have a camera with me just in case something like this happens. I've been told it was a vole. Didn't have to wait too long, I was watching him for about 10 minutes off and on. Then I saw him strike, missed that shot but grabbed the camera for the rest of the action. "Luck favors the prepared" I'm glad you liked the photos.

Nice shots. A number of years ago I caught a series of photos (on film) of a GBH that has speared a rodent of about that size on its bill. I didn't see it swallow its prey, but that's when I learned that they will eat whatever they can catch. Thanks for sharing these. jak

My pleasure, jak. I appreciate it.

I have seen them eat bunnies, when we had them, before the pythons ate them all. It is amazing what they will eat. Again, a great series Chief

I was once sent a video of a GBH hunting and catching a gopher in the back yard of the videographer. In case any of you are unfamiliar with gophers, they are about the size of a grey squirrel minus the tail.
