Just to finish this message chain and for those unfamiliar with the Surf Scoter, I captured this shot of a female Surf Scoter and thought it would be fun to post it. So here it is. As you can see, the body is more grayish brown than black. Only the crown of the head is black. The bill lacks the bright colors. The white path on the back of the neck is smaller, and there are two small white patches on the face. Except when showing off for females, Surf Scoters are mostly silent. That's about all I have on the Surf Scoters. Have a great week, all.
