Is Paris Burning?

Actually, this time the answer is yes.

I have been reading and watching news from France (in the original language as French is one of the languages I'm fluent in. This helps cut out the MSM filter on things.)

It's pretty nasty over there. The French did not like the added tax on already expensive diesel and gasoline, in the name of the Paris Accord. The gilets jaunes (yellow vests) have been going on a rampage demonstrating their anger at these taxes. Most of the signatories of the Paris accords have walked away from it by the simple fact that none of them are meeting their reduction targets, but Emmanuel Macron wanted to give it on last push and has now backed down.

BTW, virtually the only country that is reducing CO2 emissions is the one that formally pulled out of the accords; the USA. How ironic is that?

Someone will soon be along to explain that this is Trump’s fault.

I was reading a story in the DailyMail over the weekend. In it, it said something to the effect that President Trump tweeted about how bad the Paris Climate agreement was and how the agreement was causing all this rampage. In the very next line, the DailyMail said the rampage had nothing to do with the Paris Climate agreement and then 2 paragraphs later they talk about how the r****rs were incensed at the new taxes on fuel being imposed in order to try to reach the goals of the Paris Climate agreement. I Schiff you not, they had that back to back to back and the editors let it fly by.

The irony was lost on them.

Say what you will about the accord but take ownership of the fact that the United States is the 2nd biggest polluter in the world, surpassed only by China.
Maybe instead of worrying about paying 25 cents more a gallon for gasoline, you should be worrying about your children, your grandchildren or the planet in general.
The climate is already changing and you'd have to be willfully blind not to see it.
Just a thought

And a mindless thought.

The US has been decreasing its CO2 emissions whereas the rest of the world have increased theirs.

I take umbrage to using the word polluter, because it's incorrect. CO2 is not pollution, it's plant food. Yes, we are the second largest emitter of plant food, but far from being the second biggest polluter on the planet.

Paying more for gasoline will do ABSOLUTELY nothing to combat any type or pollution or emission for the country and even less for the world.

I will believe it's a problem when the people who say it's a problem start acting like it's a problem.

Oh and BTW, I work from home and drive very little. My house is quite energy efficient we have been upgrading the insulation and A/C to keep up with technology and efficiency, we have double pane argon-filled windows everywhere.. All CRTs are gone, most light bulbs are LED, with the remainder being changed as we replace the bulbs.

My house is far more energy efficient than any of Algore's mansions. Go preach to the priests.

So CO2 is "plant food".
I hope you're kidding because if not.
Well never mind, I've been reprimanded three times this week by Admin for using the word I prefer.

Of course it's plant food. Take away all CO2 and we would all die. Your ignorance of photosynthesis is abysmal.

Why do you think greenhouses increase the level of CO2 in their enclosures?

Here's a quick example:

My God, you really are clueless.

Piggy,
I fully understand photosynthesis. It's you, that I don't understand. Do you understand that you can surround yourself with plants in your bedroom but if you fill that room with co2, you will still die?
CO2 also causes the earth to get warmer and we're already seeing the effects of that on our environment.
I truly can't believe that you have so little knowledge of high-school science that you think CO2 is a "good" thing.
I would suspect that you're just being Trumpian or possibly a Russian bot.
Whichever, it's not attractive.

I don't understand why you insist of displaying further ignorance. But I'm happy to play.

CO2 makes up about 0.04% of our atmosphere. CO2 becomes toxic to humans when it reaches a concentration of about 6% or about 150 times the current concentration. CO2 is a trace gas.

So, I fail to see what your relation between atmospheric CO2 concentration and filling a room with CO2 have to do with anything.

And I maintain that without CO2, we would all die, after the plants have all died.

Actually, for once, you are not far from the t***h.

France has been an economic disaster for 50 years, with very low GDP growth and high unemployment. The current president Emmanuel Macron, is a snooty 40-some year old elitist with zero life experience. He essentially married his mother.

The government has been totally deaf to the plight of the population and has just been adding taxes and such one after the other without regards to how the people can pay them and still have some kind of life. The surtax that Macron imposed on fuel in an effort to make a feeble attempt at approaching the possibility of nearing the CO2 emissions reduction of the Paris accord was the straw that broke the camel's back. It was viewed as a tax on the little people (99% of the French population) to reach a meaningless goal, that would make Macron look good.

They didn't go for it.

The e******n of Trump, followed by the massive uptick in economic activity in the US, along with a concomitant drop in unemployment was watched with envy by the French people, just not the French elite. When Trump withdrew from the Paris accord and with the US now experiencing a recrudescence in oil & gas exploration and production and our gas prices going down, well, people in France got really pissy that for them the price was going up, but only due to taxes.

They see our reinvigorating economy and yet they have nothing to hope for on their end. They love their country but it's been destroyed by the elite and they are angry. I've been watching some feeds and reading the French news sites and I read what Macron spoke about earlier this week. He had very little to offer, because France is essentially broke. He was asking companies to offer them employees a bonus at year end which would not be taxed. He discarded the fuel tax that sparked all this, but that's all it was, a spark. The people have had it with their elites over there, but I believe it's too late for easy, calm solutions; something's going to break.

Think of the Gilets Jaunes as the deplorables, except it's 99% of the folks other there.

Just read the French news sites today; France is gearing up for another weekend of demonstrations and worse. They listed the metro stations that will be closed in Paris starting Saturday. This is the 5th weekend with these demonstrations.

I hope no one gets hurt or k**led.
