I am thinking of buying the Nikon 18-200mm dx lens for my d3300, I like landscape photography, is it a good lens for this subject?.

My son has the AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR which he uses mostly for landscape and house pictures on a D3200. He is a realtor.

The 18-200 is a decent lens, especially considering that it is an 11:1 superzoom. I have one that I use in those cases where it is not practical to carry a bucketload of lenses around, or where I need to manage weight and size. It will capture nice images, but is not particularly fast at the long end. Technically, it has some shortcomings. But it has been around for a long time, which is an indication that it continues to fill a lot of needs for a lot of people. It also received design update a few years ago, so it is far from an orphan.

When I bought my crop frame d90 I bought the body and the 18-200 lens, foregoing the kit kens. I have captured some excellent images with that lens. It’s versatile. Wide enough for landscape and in doors close quarters. . And powerful enough zoom to get in close. I’ve used it for sports as well with really good results.

I only wish it was a bit faster. I hence went to a 70-200 f2.8 for lower light capability.

If this is the 18 200 Nikon I owned a few years ago it is a great lens.
I put in on a 7000 and the results were great. I think it is sort of one of those cult lens
photographers have. Dont know if this might be an updated version. Probably not.
I was sorry it went when I traded a lot of Nikon stuff and went to Sony mirrorless.
One afternoon my little grandaughter had a pool birthday party.
Shot with this rig grabbing shots and was really impressed what I got
from this pairing. A shame but I won't post pix of my kids and friends. Good luck.

What do you plan on using the non-typical range (70-200mm) of the zoom for?

thanks for all replies.
I am currently using a 16-85 mm dx lens with vr, it is a good lens but sometimes I need that extra zoom when shooting mountains that are far away etc.

Non-typical?!!
In that the smaller zoom range makes for faster maximum aperture and fewer compromises in sharpness?

So consider the AF-S 18-300 if you want a do all lens, or the AF-P 70-300VR. There are two 18-300s. The one with a max fstop of 5.6 is better. The 70-300 is lighter, cheaper, and higher image quality. There are two versions of the 70-300. You want the VR version.

Yes. Non-typical for the landscapes he says he mostly photographs. I have never considered those focal lengths to be a landscape lens. He may find those focal lengths of use, but just a qualifying question about the lens he is considering.

I have noticed that there are those who enjoy the compression aspects of longer focal lengths, but I agree longer lengths are not referred to as landscape lenses.
