I have a trip planned to jungle climate. I will be leaving winter weather and need to wear winter weight clothing.
I added extra day to get back to starting hotel with hopes to leave bulky clothing there. I am curious to see if anyone can offer better solutions for next time.

Also, the tour info suggests using a "day pack" for excursions. Any suggestions? I am taking minimal camera equipment.
Thanks for your ideas and help.

I have a down filled long sleeve coat I use for this. Warm down to well below freezing and packs down to about the size of a 16oz pop bottle.

Some airports have lockers. Others will store luggage. Can get expensive. Never tried to use them. Google the airport you arrive at to see.

It is a good idea to have warm jacket when travelling in winter. I once experienced an unscheduled night landing in Gander, Nova Scotia in December. The temp was -20. It was due to a bomb threat so they parked the plane away from the terminal and hustled us out to stand on the tarmac and wait for unheated school busses to take us to terminal while a three hour search ensued. No bomb but plenty of passangers froze their butts off.

Yeah, don't do it as I did once. I was on the way to a tropical Island in march, several years ago and I already was wearing shorts and tank top for the arrival. Unfortunately, the plane had to go a different route for fueling and some other issues, so we had to make an extra stop. It happen to be in Newfoundland and we stayed 2 1/2 hours. They did not have any blankets to pass around and the temperature was 20 below F. So I did freeze my ass off, it was a very unpleasant couple of hours!

Oh, right...Gander is Newfounland, not Nova Scotia! Must always be -20 there.

When I was working in Borneo the best advice I had was to wear a long sleeve shirt it stops the insects eating you so much

Be mindful of what you drink and where it comes from.

I have the same problem. On my way to the jungle I'll be spending three days in Amsterdam in mid-winter. I'll take long wool underwear, alpaca sweater, windproof outer jacket, gloves and a watch cap. I already have a small pack.

That’s what you get for wearing shorts and tank top on a flight.

Thanks,
On the way back from my army stint (Korean war) the plane stopped over in gander and the snow appeared to be about 10 ' deep. No fun!

I won't have a choice; it will be freezing here when I have to leave for trip. Thanks for your comment

Thanks. I plan to carry several long sleeved T-shirts plus insect repellant.
