I am having issues with LR after hooking up my new monitor. Specs below

The Text of the upper header File, Photo, View, etc is Tiny .... The text throughout is much too small too! I can't find a way to adjust that. The computer monitor itself is set to view at the recommended 150%
Also ... the old monitor .... a good LED Dell unit projects LR at an expanded size ... super large!

When I disconnect the primary monitor (the new one) and reboot the computer with the old monitor... LR restores to a good size. But with both monitors connected together, it's all screwed up.

But this is NOT a problem with other programs. Microsoft Word for instance, maintains the same size print and "paper" width on both monitors.... So I think this is a LR issue ....

Any ideas???

LG #32UD59.
32" UHD 4K
16x9 aspect ratio
3840x2160
60 hz refresh rate
Basic computer specs is the Intel i7 8700k NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card with 32G memory and Solid State primary drive.

Turning up the percentage is the only way to fix LR or PS. I don't say it's the LR problem either.

I knew you were going to state 4K before I read it. Someone on The Hog told me long ago not to bother with 4K if you are going to also use the same computer and monitor for MS Office or most other application software. 4K is great for Games, Movies, Probably Photoshop and Lightroom. But for many programs the text will be minute with 4K. Yes, you can adjust system font size a bit but only about from 50% to 150% or only 75% to 125% with Windows.

Your PC seems similar to mine (Dell XPS9800 & Win 10 Home) but I have a 1TB HDD instead of the SSD. Right now I live with a 22" Monitor. I would like a 32" but not a 4K. There are other monitor specs more important for photo editing. Ask some of the other UHH members about that. Odd your problem seems to be partly flipped from what I was told. Check settings in LR. Good luck.

Try the computer with just the new LG monitor. In LR go to the preferences panels and there is a setting for text size and other things. Check your settings. in Windows go to your monitor settings, you should be able to scale both monitors independently. Try setting the new monitor as your main monitor.

What version of windows are you using?

The current version of LR Classic CC (they changed this with LR6) has the following font size choices:

Auto
Small
Medium
150%
200%
250%

Surely one of these will work.

This is the primary reason I have not gotten on the 4K or 5K bandwagon - I went to dual HD displays, for an effective resolution of 3840x1280 - and a really wide desktop. Font size is fine, and I have LR set to auto.

Gene .. I am returning the 4K monitor .... I have done more searching and then spoke with my Tech Support folks and they tell me that even Game enthusiasts are having trouble with the 4K monitors.

So back in the box it goes!

Thanks!

Windows 10 .... I tried your suggestion ... better but not good. When I migrated to Photoshop, the problem got worse...

The monitor is being boxed up and returned to the store and I am back to shopping .....

Thanks for your reply and suggestions

you are absolutely correct... it is not a LR or PS problem. It's a compatibility issue with 4K ......... monitor is being returned!

Sounds like this is an application issue which hopefully will be addressed as monitor resolution increases. As resolution is increased, the text will get smaller unless the ap will allow it to be changed to compensate. 4K resolution is typically 3840x2160 which is substantially higher than most 6:9 monitors are typically run at. I’m using multiple monitors like Gene instead of 4K for this reason (plus I really like having tool menus and file explorer on one with the photo editing window on the other).

But the real problem is marketing. Gaming and video streaming are huge markets for computer and TV displays - and both benefit from very bright displays, short lag times and high resolution. Color accuracy text scaling and other things are not a priority.

When it comes down to the ideal display for editing, most are 30 bit color and will support a wide gamut 30 bit workflow in Photoshop. Eizo's very popular CG2730 - is a 27" monitor, and it has a very reasonable 2560x1440 resolution and it costs around $1200. HP's somewhat similar 2560x1440 Dreamcolor Z27XG2 is $2800. If you get the chance you should check out what the photo editing experience is on one of these displays, and then decide how much you are willing to sacrifice, or put another way, how much do you actually need to spend to get what you want in a monitor. I'm pretty sure it's not a 4k or 5k or a Retina or anything like that, unless you do video and play games. Dell, ASUS and BenQ have reasonably priced displays with this level of resolution for between $500 and $1000 that are worth a look. Don't forget to add the cost of a color profiling system - all displays drift from their original factory calibration settings, and the only way to make sure the image is consistent is to profile. I suggest you avoid Datacolor's products, since they cannot properly profile any display with a programmable LUT. The least expensive tool that can would be the Xrite i1 Display Pro. The Dell Ultrasharp displays are examples of monitors with programmable LUTs.

Here is an article that describes the process, and provides some general comments on some low cost wide gamut displays:

I finally learned how to use the color picker. I never could figure out how to use that. Great video.

A 4k monitor can be a bit of a pain (slower mainly) but I can display most of a 30MP image at 1:1 and that is invaluable. I use a 32" Dell 4k monitor (their professional series for photography) and love it. Mind you it did cost $2k (less now)
