One Simple Sunrise from Key West

Like a lot of people on here, I've been involved with photography for over 50 years,
both professionally and as an enthusiast.

I'm particularly attracted to sunrises, sunsets and reflections in water, so I'm
looking forward to this new section.

My goal on this particular morning was to capture the most color in the
background while making the entire image visually appealing. In doing
so, I'm afraid I lost too much detail in the foliage, so any thoughts,
suggestions and critique is welcome.

I use a Canon EOS60D with an EF-S 18-135mm lens, shot at 1/60, f13,
ISO 2500, and I just noticed that I forgot to turn the clock back an hour.
This image was actually captured around 6:30am.

I like the result and think you succeeded....the color is what helps make this photo...the lack of detail in the foliage may have helped the overall look.

HDR would have given you more detail in the foliage...and a different look...not necessarily better than what you achieved.

I like it as it is.
+1 on the suggestion for a HDR when shooting.

I think this is wonderful and I prefer a silhouette over details of foliage presented in shadow. I do wonder if you might clone-out the two random leaves on the right margin of the image?

The distinctive silhouettes of the palm trees give me a sense of place (OK, not the specific beach, lol, but we know it's not Alaska). I like peeking through the foliage to see the color, though for my personal preference there may be slightly more foliage filling the frame than I'd prefer. For your stated concern, I - like the others who've commented - don't see it as an issue.

The silhouettes of the foliage enhance the impact of the colors. I wouldn't change anything about it.

The silhouetted vegetation against the pastel sky coloration works here to my eye.

Thank you, Dean. I appreciate you taking the time to view and to leave a comment.

I haven't jumped in to HDR yet, but need to explore it. I have used AEB on my 60D to try to ensure
I get at least one salvageable image, and will have to consider adding my tripod to my morning
excursions and HDR software to my bag of PP solutions.

Thank you very much for viewing, commenting and making a great
suggestion. I loved it so much, I removed those random leaves as
well as the small distracting lights in the lower horizon as well as
one of the poles.

Thank you very much, Linda. I always enjoy reading your comments on UHH,
and consider you to be one of the most honest and straight forward people
I've ever met...ok, we didn't actually meet....

I can see what you're saying about this image having slightly more foliage,
especially in the mid-center, right area.

In keeping with "landscapes," this would probably be a better representation.
Basically same angle, but captured at 18mm instead of 36mm.
