Along with Ch_Canon's reply, you can go to the home page of the section and see the button just to the right of "create new topic" which is just below the title of the section itself and just above the bold-formatted title of the "Introduction/please read" article.

I would like to suggest that Historical Landscape ought to be included as a significant sub-category. It would be wonderful if photographers submit images from the countries they visit with researched comments on the meaning of each picture. I this way, we may all enjoy learning about places that we are not likely to visit. As an example, I have made a series of images in the film era of the historic island of Ithaca in Greece that are directly related to landscapes described or mentioned in Homer's Odyssey.

I'm not sure what you mean by "sub-category", ssymeono, but if you started a thread and it turned into an ongoing subject of interest we could sticky it in the section (i.e.it would join the stationary threads at the top of page 1 and stay there). We could do that to any thread that had potential to become a useful reference.

"I am not sure what you mean..."

Photographers visit towns, landscapes, battlefields of historical significance in our country and around the globe. It would be interesting and educational to have such images collected here under "Historical Landscapes". E.g., two years ago, I visited Ste. Genevieve, a town to the south of St. Louis, and saw a tall 18th century building that had been built with the logs in the vertical rather than the usual horizontal position. The locals claim it as one of the earliest such buildings in the US. There was also an equally old wooden railroad bridge.

The nearest a section can come to having a sub-section is to have ongoing threads. How long those threads remain active depends on the section membership participation and whether the interest is sustained. If you add "(discuss and share)" or some such in brackets to the thread's title and then invite people to add their own images/stories/info and/or discussion to the thread you could end up with an ongoing thread which could then be stickied.

Alternatively you could start a series of threads and start the title of each one with "Historical Landscape:- xxxxx" (for example) to identify it as part of the series. Then the links to each thread in the series can be added to a collecting point (one of your pages for example) and a link to that collecting point can be stickied in a purpose-built thread, or the links could be added directly to the purpose-built thread.

I still like that if the image is presented in landscape orientation, it can be an image of anything ...

True, but "landscape oriented" is still a requirement in the new section .

This is a good definition of it. In a sense, it has been happening with many people posting images of their travels albeit not always explaining them or placing them in context. Calling it "historical landscape" would encourage them to write something about the identity and the history of the image. Admittedly, it might be a burden to ask everyone to write about their work, especially if most photographers are satisfied with the mere enjoyment of a beautiful image. In the long run, however, we may all be glad to have properly identified landscapes. Just think how mother nature and human interaction constantly alter the environment we live in, sometimes so drastically as to have no record of it.
