Hi Hogs

I am going to Bandipur in India in February on a safari - has anyone been to this area to shoot wildlife etc - this is my first safari, I have a Nikon D810 - lenses - Sigma 150-500 5.6-6.3, Nikkor F2.8 70-200, Nikkor 50mm F1.4, 24-70 F2.8 Sigma, Nikon 28-300 3.5-5.6.
Fuji XT2 - lenses 18-55, 35mm F2.8, 50-140 F2.8 with tc 1.4, 50-230 F4.5-6.7.

I know there are weight restrictions and do not want to take anything that is unnecessary - any help would be appreciated. I have have various filters and pieces I can also take. I always take far too much and have to carry it all, frightened that I might MISS THE SHOT.

Thank you

I have been on safari in India a couple of times Linda before I got into photography and am going again in March next year to Kanha, India, with my Canon 650D, 18-55 lens, 18-400 and a Canon SX50 as a backup. I remember other people using limited gear, as the dust thrown up when travelling is very bad! You certainly won’t want to be changing lenses often if ever while travelling in the open topped vehicles.
Hope you have a great trip.

I just returned from safari in Botswana. Most important is to take a backup camera body. I had great success with a Canon 6D (full frame), 100 x 400 and 28 x 70 lenses, 1.4x extender, and a Canon T7i as a backup. Most of the time, I used the 100 x 400 + 1.4x on the T7i and 28 x 70 on the 6D. I didn't lose a camera body but I did lose the 28 x 70 lens. Fortunately I was in Cape Town the day that happened and was able to replace it with a Tamron 24 x 70 with IS, which is a much nicer lens than the Canon 28 x 70. I used both setups during the drives. It was so much easier to switch one setup for the other without having to change lenses, which you don't want to do. Take lots of batteries and lots of SD cards or whatever storage your camera uses. Enjoy and show us photos when you return!

BTW, I have a 150 x 600 lens and quite happy I didn't take that beast. The 100 x 400 was beast enough.
