I recently bought a Lexar 32gb CF card. Cardboard box looks fine, on back is sticker saying product of Vietnam LCF32GRBAS1066 B&H is selling card for $32 I paid $31 from another source.
The B&H card has a differant MFR#. I called B&H and they said the one for $32 is product of Vietnam, but ad says -----BNA1066 which I assume is North America. I don't feel I can trust Vietnam production. Any comments on Vietnam cards & B&H as trusted source?

I have no experience with products made in Vietnam. In today's world, products are made all over the world.

I do use and trust B&H for (most) all of my photography needs. I have never known B&H to mislead, mis-advertise, or provide substandard products. The low price of the card might have been a clue?

If I can buy a card made in USA or Japan I would buy it but chances are you won't find one. Otherwise I much rather have a card made in Vietnam than made in China.

The solid state electronics of the card are probably made by machine controlled vapor deposition. The final card is machine assembled. A human presses the machine off-on button. The machine and process was probably made in Silicon Valley, or thereabouts. Vietnam is just incidental.

Lots of things we import are made in Vietnam. As always, quality depends on the people in charge.

I have been using Lexar SD cards for last few years, bought on Amazon. I have no idea where they were made and are working fine. They sometimes include a free recovery that works great. When I changed computers I lost the app and CS was on the ball and helped me download a newer version.

I would venture to guess that 100% of the components in all the electronics we own are made in Vietnam, China, Thailand or Taiwan. As labor cost increases in China and Taiwan, manufacturers will look elsewhere in SE Asia for a more competitive price. At least in Vietnam, industry is not owned by the Army like in China.

I trust products sold by B&H. If you bought your Lexar card from "another source" you may get a counterfeit card. Counterfeit products are sold from sources that don't care where they get them and often times purposely source their products knowing that they are counterfeit. A reputable retailer like B&H will usually (99% of the time) buy from a reputable wholesaler.

One other thing I might mention about Lexar is that Lexar actually went out of business. After going out of business, they still owned the intellectual rights to the manufacturing processes and probably still had some labs and/or lab equipment and did find a buyer (after going out of business). It was a foreign company that bought them. I've been watching them closely to see if there are any/many complaints with they products they are selling now and don't see any downfalls so far. They seem to be making just as good a product as before. I know a guy named Jeff Cable that worked many years for Lexar. He was also a spokesman for them after he quit and became a full time pro photographer. But after they went out of business, he had to find his cards somewhere else and he had to endorse products elsewhere. Now he supports ProGrade products. https://shop.progradedigital.com/?rfsn=1260304.739ce&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=1260304.739ce
Jeff said he didn't have confidence in the new Lexar company because he doesn't really have anything to go on. He's never been to the new offices or manufacturing sites.

That said, I think I'd still support Lexar since I believe they still use the same practices as before. If they didn't, I'd probably have seen many complaint over the past year and so far I really haven't read anything bad about them.

Right, Micron sold Lexar name to Chinese company Longsys. I have 1 card labeled Lexar/Longsys made in China. The ones from B&H @$32 are made in Vietnam, no Micron machinery or testing labs from California. The new company ProGrade are original Micron/Lexar employees who started new production. Probably best choice but prices are even higher than before.

Some years ago I found this information elsewhere.

"SD Card Mfrs Who Make Own Chips
Lexar
Samsung
SanDisk
Toshiba

They have quality control on the chips which are the real 'meat & potatos' of the card. Any other company would not have such control. I would look on the the card box very carefully to see who made the chip.

Also some while back I heard that Lexar had been bought by someone, forget who.

Card is made by Lexar, where it's made is decided by Lexar. Just use it and don't worry.

The top Olympus camera at present, the EM-1 Mk II is made in Vietnam.
Olympus has announced that in the future more of their products will be made in Vietnam. China has taken a good share of Olympus products in the past and as far as I know there have been no complaints regarding quality.

Their shirts are just fine, wear a lot that say made in Vietnam. Digital cards are made world wide these days and I wouldn't worry about quality if sold from B&H. Besides, they'll stand behind any/all of their products. I usually avoid things that say 'Made in China' when I can.

Good point. Hence the inroads foreign cars have made in the last 10 years. Well the UAW played a role. Not in a positive way.

Vietnam, Malaysia, Korea, China... it makes little difference to me where it's actually made. Besides, the Vietnamese are known to be very hard working people.
