I was wondering if it’s the same lens that came with my D500. If so, it’s an f/4, not a 2.8-4.

I don't know what lens came with your D500. My D500 came with a Nikkor 16-80 f/2.8-4 lens.

Although not the clearest images, here is the lens that came packaged as the kit lens to my D500. If this isn't proof enough, I do have the the boxes and everything that came with the purchase down in my basement.

Got a question: I want to buy a NIKKOR 16-80mm f/2.8-4 lense.

I've been using Google to research various suppliers of the lense. Many of them offer the lense new at list price of $1,069.95

Now, on Abe's of Maine, it offers the lense new for $655:

Is this price too good to be true? Could the lense be a gray market item, and if so, is a gray market item of good quality?
OK, here's the deal - 'gray market' has NOTHING to do with the quality of the product. It only refers to the method of import. It means that the product wasn't imported by the 'authorized' US distributor, so any repair needed is not covered by the US warranty. Some retailers sell both gray and authorized items, and offer a store warranty for the gray market product. That warranty may be just fine or not depending on the reputation and reliability of the retailer. Sometimes retailers that sell gray market products strip the normally included accessories from the package and then try to sell them to you at an inflated price, thereby negating .the perceived savings. Anytime a dealer starts trying to upsell you, you should run away quickly!
Can anyone offer comments that could shed light on this scenario?

Thanks

So have I but I didn't feel it was worth mentioning. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has conquered Abe's of Maine.
Would I buy a big ticket item from them or one of their sale kits? Probably not. I remember an add they ran several years ago. It was for a Canon EOS 6D kit with all the usual junk accessories and mini tripod and assorted carp that made the picture look cool. Problem was, the extra lens they were throwing in to make it a great deal was, apparently unbeknownst to them, an EF-S lens. As my buddy bugs would say, ehhh, what a bunch of ultra maroons.

You see that a lot on here. It's how our language "progresses" thru the ages. It's how coupon became kyoopon.

While you’re at it, see if they’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge. Stay away from them. Really bad news.

ANSWER: Absolutely and unequivocally, YES. Do a search on this site about Abe's of Maine. You'll see that you should run, don't walk, away from them. They have the worst reputation of any camera dealer/seller known to the internet.

Oh, on a lighter note, stand by to get your knuckles rapped by the spelling police on this site regarding the spelling of "lense"....

Such as my Industar 50mm pancake lens. Hardly bigger than a body cap, and actually takes good pictures !!
