I can't help but wonder where you and your camera were situated. The title brings to mind the Peter May books, but I wouldn't connect this with his coastal descriptions. Im scratching my head trying to understand the apparent lack of wave forms to accompany the surf lines. The lighting and angle? with a little help?

The wind was flattening the waves rather than building them up. The lines are spume/foam, blown parallel with the coast, not breakers. I was standing on a headland at the end of a bay.

The vantage point does feel like being airborne. I suspected it was a protected area but I have only witnessed spume at a much smaller scale. The juxtaposition of that, with the jagged geology is quite marvelous.

This was taken on a different day and looking in the opposite direction, south instead of north. I was standing roughly in the centre of the headland you see. The cliffs are close to 200 feet high.

Breathtaking, awe inspiring, and stunning. How many other shots did you take before deciding on this one?

Dozens, I'm a great believer in working the scene. Squeezing it dry as it were

This is beautiful. The lines of foam are really nice, and the boulders are beautiful.

Thank you for digging this out. This is a majestic place. I'm seeing what appears to be a number of dwellings, or structures of some sort outlined. Several almost a pyramidal shaped. Gables? Ruins? 4 pixels tall but intriguing. Also the repeated upright structure to the left that appears as a giant fence is curious.

What you see is, I think, is the result of the habit that seems to be popular, amongst visitors to remote places of balancing rocks on top of one another to leave their mark on a pristine place. There are no buildings in the area.

Ah, thats disturbing. Kind of a sore spot for me. I really admire the early American Indians for their respect for the earth. I hope those kinds of values are not over the edge for extinction, but I am afraid that mankind is just too impressed with itself, and will continue paving over the earth. Depressing thoughts.

Hi, Graham,

This B&W image certainly reduces to the lowest common denominators the effects that a classic harsh, sharp B&W day and light has upon the harsh and sharp physical features of that rugged coast.
I come away with a much different feeling than I had having viewed a wonderful color version of this scene you posted some time ago.

Thinking of you and Rosemary,

Dave

Thanks, Dave. The Doctors still want to defer it until after Christmas but I get a little more tired each day. I've never looked forward to a new year more than the coming one. New year, new lease of life!

Our very best to yourself and Tanya.

Graham
