I respect your opinion but can't agree! "Notre Dame is one of six schools that competes as an Independent at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Football Bowl Subdivision level; however, they play five games a year against opponents from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), which Notre Dame is a member of in all other sports except ice hockey." Great football program and great school. (Of course, I am a little biased. My kid got his PhD there...)

The NCAA Football is considering an 8 game playoffs system in the future. This will most likely result in the Mid Major Conferences getting to the party. As long as the Major Conferences are playing undefeated or one loss seasons, things will remain the same. Ohio State defeated #4 ranked Michigan decisively. Won the Big Ten Conference as well. Georgia had a bad loss to LSU, and Ohio State loss to Purdue. The committee doesn't reward ugly losses during the regular season. Last year Ohio State had an ugly loss in Iowa, which prevented them from getting the #4 slot. That last #4 slot was given to Alabama. Alabama went on to win the National Championship. No committee is going to keep a highly touted team like Alabama out, and no committee is going to ignore the accomplishments of the SEC Conference. The Big Ten Conference use to be the Grand Daddy of all Conferences. Not anymore. Left out of playoffs two straight years now. Urban Meyer is the King of the Big Ten Conference today. But coach Saban of SEC Alabama, wears a bigger crown. At least for now.

I thought for sure when the starting QB went down in the fourth down by 7 the game was over. I forgot who the back up was. I thought it was a great finish. I would love to see ND win it all.

The backup is Jalen Hurts, who was the starter all of last year until he was replaced by this year's starter, Tua Tagovailoa in the second half of the 2017 National Championship game. Tagovailoa turned in a stellar performance in the 2017 game, helping secure the win for the Crimson Tide.

Coincidentally this year, Hurts came in for the injured starter, Tagovailoa, and brought the team back from a 7 point deficit to win the SEC championship and preserve 'Bama's #1 ranking. Like deja vu in reverse. Both are excellent quarterbacks and both are capable of starting for almost any BCS team.

'Bama has such depth that they have backups for their backups. They habitually make life miserable for us Auburn folk, but once in a while we get to smile, as we did last year when we beat them in the final game of the season last year.

Especially now, should UCF, having lost their starting QB, defeat another top tier bowl opponent, the committee's selections would have some tarnish. Ohio State and Georgia notwithstanding.

Ohio State and Georgia have one and two losses, respectively. OSU's and one of Georgia's to lower ranked and presumably inferior teams. I don't follow UCF, but in my opinion 25 consecutive wins speaks volumes. The number three and four championship playoff choices may be a bit suspect as championship choices, but it's hard to imagine that there is a better team in the country this year than Alabama or Clemson.

What does that tell you about the Selection Board?

Maybe they took a look at the teams UCF played.

Notre Dame, located in South Bend, has a great athletic program. They won the women's basketball championship last year. The Football Team, many years ago were, the envy of the nation. The nation will be watching them, to see if they can play with the Big Boys. It's a new era in college football now. Those colleges that use to rule, are not the rulers anymore. Notre Dame is certainly more popular than Purdue and Indiana. University. Both of them in the Big Ten Conference. Notre Dame is Independent. No Confidence connection.

Thankfully the committee didn’t bend and force an inferior Big Ten team into the playoff.

Losing their QB didn’t help.

Notre Dame does NOT belong in here. They are not in a conference, and play in no conference championship.

It’s not about the number one conference team, it’s about the number one team.

Bama might be in trouble. The Citadel tied them at the half. Also, they have not played against a high-powered offense like Oklahoma's offense.

Oklahoma could be a team to be taken seriously..I watched them avenge that loss against Texas, and they looked very good. Notre Dame has no connection to a Conference. I think the team has always been Independent, and have or had, a lucrative TV contracts with the NBC Network.
