I would submit that the foreground and sky are the important elements of
the picture and the barn simply provides a little balance and small contrast in color.

Late May early June as there is a lot of color at this time. The bright yellow canola fields are in full bloom at this time.

I think it's a great photo. And, like others have said, I would leave the bales in it.
