I am sure I can find some of you who would get a laugh out of this. Figured I would share to brighten your day.

ok so why do I hate Netflix??? I am going to add them to my list of entities that I love to passionately HATE!
Let me expand the reasoning here.
I am going to start my own movement... populated by myself, my-self, and the other self.... not a selfie OK!!
The movement is called tech luddite inc. if you don't know what a luddite is... google it.
I am going BACK to the wonderful tactile world of REAL books... board games.... yes BOARD GAMES that's those things that come in a box and not that crap that is blowing out our computer and TV screens, begging us to try the latest app for the latest impossible to understand game or program that is supposedly entertaining or productive!
Understand this tho… I am NOT opposed to advanced technology. This process, this medium absolutely has it's place in the world! BUT NOT entirely in my reality.
I am know as what would be called a selective luddite. I select a given technology that offers the LEAST path of resistance to a MINIMUM productive working relationship with that technology. This means that in my opinion and experience that I accept technology at a VERY BASIC level that allows me to function at an equally basic and minimalistic path through the tech jungle.
Lets take any high level computer function, in particular, any high level understanding of the vast assembly of media streaming process, networking, routing and so on.
My response?? WHATEVERRRRRRRRR!!!
It either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't... when then it gets ugly... and a VERY short time after that it goes into the "neverworld." The "neverworld" is that place where I throw this convoluted garbage, either literally or figuratively, never to have any desire to deal with it anymore.
Next week I will going onto further detail on just how many times I have to deal with the ridiculous convolution of so called tech English. Following my question, I am subject to several sentence of this absolute DRIVEL I am asked for a response. OH YEAH how wonderfully blissfully ignorant the person on the other end of the phone in assuming that I understood even ONE word of what was just said!!! More on this next week in the continuing adventures of a tech luddite!!

HAHA
Ian... and yes this is no joke.... this is where I feel I am every day in our wonderful world of technology.

You sign yourself as a creative artist who is still learning. I suggest that you do not need to understand the technology in order to use it. If you typed your post in MS Word you could switch on 'grammar check' so that your sentences were actually sentences.

You state that this is an extract from your blog. Therefore, you contradict nearly everything that you have written.

Technology has always been 'far beyond the individual'. Breaking the steam weaving machines as a Luddite, underpins this. They were not out to stop weaving, but to stop the greater competition that individual weavers were put under. As a creative artist, if you cannot compete with Graphic Art, then you can change your 'medium' to something 'less crowded'.

Life? There has never been an easy life. You can have a choice though. If you don't want to be eaten by lions, keep out of Africa. Just because 'it' is available does not mean you have to have it. No-One has everything - so it is not like you are missing out.

Perhaps you have merely realized, what many older people have come to accept. With each year that passes you need less 'stuff'. Your 'bucket list' is a few odds and ends that you can't remember 'what you removed it from', or even why you put it in a bucket.

I am sure that there are people 'out there' who are receptive to your ideals. Perhaps like the 'Gospel' shouters of old, we will see you on the street corner. After all, it would be self defeating to 'put out your message' using the very tools you decry.

Life is what you make of it....you obviously need to rethink yours.

Good luck.

I never thought of Netflix as an alternative to books, but as an alternative to going to a movie theater, which I prefer.

Exactly. The money you save on popcorn alone pays for the subscription.

America is about choices. Obviously you made yours. Lighten up and let others make their choices without criticism.

OK, I Googled it and the first response is:
Lud·dite /ˈlədˌīt/
A member of any of the bands of English workers who destroyed machinery, especially in cotton and woolen mills, that they believed was threatening their jobs.

Do you have a job at a cotton and woolen mill that is being threatened by machinery?

LOL.... no Ed... just using the word as a comparison to explain my frustration with technology and how I am always having issues with computers and media streaming. I know I am not alone.... but sometimes I feel like I am just banging my head against the wall :)

Ignoring your horrible writing style (as has been pointed out already), I can only ask what the heck it is about Netflix that makes you place it in your vaunted "neverworld" category. After all, that's the thing that seemed to set you off on this particular rant...

Ignoring the fact that you all think I am some kind of low life uneducated wannabe..... you are all entitled to your opinions.... it shows me however that none of you have any sense of humor and you judge a persons worth for anything at all by how they dot the I's and cross the T's. I find that typical of just about anyone in today's over inflated egotistical sample of humanity

Somehow I understand what you are trying to say.
Look, I deal with computers since 1979 and I am
totally disappointed to what has happened with the
primary intents of the so-called World-Wide Web.
It was supposed to be a form of exchanging knowledge
by connecting the world's Academia through a network.

As always, the mainstream media has perverted that
concept and nowadays every human being, no matter
how illiterate, can have access to any single idiocy posted
world-wide. Unfortunately, both my wife and son are 24/7
on their "social media". No more civilized conversations...

As for Netflix, here in Brazil we pay a monthly fee and got to swallow
whatever c*ap they offer us. They use our sweaty pennies to finance
their poor productions (a few exceptions... rare, BTW). Come on...
If I want to watch to a Classical performance of any orchestra or
listen to old times classics, I can use Ytube using anonymous
browsing, or put on an old 33 and 1/3 or 45 record on my Sansui.

The only on line forum I take part on is UHH, and I use a pseudonym.
I do not have any account anywhere in the world of "social media".
I do not publish medical articles (I could, and have some 3 or 4)
to avoid my name to pop up on any search engine. You know:
keep a low profile.

Sometimes I even think of quiting everything related to the Internet,
but I need to be up-to-date in order to practice my profession (M.D.).
With the new elected "powers" I foresee serious problems, regarding
Internet surveillance. It frightens me... a lot.

I think that is it, for now.

Your post has merit,,,at 71 years old I do miss that people used to socially interact with each other more before cell phones,,,however I love my cell phone in giving me directions and places to eat and places to see,,,having a camera with me,,,and for calling in emergencies,,,other than that I at times hate being connected all the time and many times leave it at home on purpose,,,here I am typing a response and enjoying UHH on a computer and while great to do research on,,, there are more and more scams and false information all the time and emails have almost become a joke,,,and I really should be outside,,,as far as Netflix seems to be a bargain although I do not use it much...

Well, this speaks to his inability to make his alleged point (why is Netflix on the receiving end of his rant?) and your inability to read what he wrote - next week he will regale us all with his take on the convoluted tech English phenomenon - but nowhere does he mention his gripe with Netflix.

So for someone braying about bad language and ostensibly poor communication, the OP shows himself to be another example of the same.

I guess we can hang on for the ride and complain, or get off, go live in the mountains and complain and wish we were back on the ride when the reality of little to no technology sets in.
I got your point, but the fact is we can no longer NOT depend on technology for daily living in one form or another. Use it to your advantage and be happy.
