Hi my name is Howard Vanover, live in E. Tn. beginner photographer. I have a Nikon d7000 and thinking about going to a Nikon 810 or 850. Will my Dx lens work on a FX camera. Thanks

Yes, a Dx lens will work in an Fx camera. The D810 and D850 has a Dx crop mode that automatically detects Dx lenses. But, you won't get the advantages of the Full Frame body.
Hi Howard, your DX lenses will work just fine on the D810-D850 bodies but will only produce the same image size as on your D7000. You will not get the same file size as an FX lens will create. Still, it's not a bad idea.

Welcome aboard. Instead of a full frame body, look at the D500. Arguably one of the best, if not the best, crop frame cameras ever made.
Welcome to UHH Howard, glad you joined us. I see several members have answered your question. My 2 cents, you can use DX lens on the D810 or D850 but don't. You will not come close to reaching the potential of the D850 with DX lens on it.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.
