Cloning a drive on a MAC

Anyone have any experience cloning a drive on a MAC? Going from 500GB to 3 TB. Assuming drive is compatible I am concerned with Machine recognizing all my photo software (all purchased new by me with multiple upgrades) including PS C5, LR4, NIK, DxO, OnOne, Photomatix, Topaz, etc. also upgrading from 2mb Ram to 8gb Ram

I have used Carbon Copy Cloner many times in the past to upgrade drives in the recent past. Mac OS X 10.4 through 10.7. I have not done it with the new 10..8 yet. Here is the website: http://www.bombich.com/ . The price is very reasonable.

I was rather surprised that I did not need to re-activate any of my software after cloning the drive. When I cloned my Windows PCs I always had that issue, but the Macs have been very easy to clone.

Thanks, great news I'm using 10.7.4.

Try Super Duper. This is available for free if you want basic cloning ability. Use it all the time to close all drives on my MacPro. Will make copy a bootable drive if you want. That is my main use - weekly backups of boot drive via 'Black X' external USB drive so I always have 2 up-to-date copies.

Of course all data (read pics) are on an external RAID 5 eSATA drive from Other World Computing (very quiet and sitting right on the desktop).

Why not use the migration utility you have on your mac?

Thanks to all. I actually found a small business locally that will upgrade the 2Ram to 4 which is max and clone my 500 GB onto a 2TB while I'm away next week. Was going to give it a go myself but this way it will be done when I return and I support a local business.
