I have the Sony e-mount 55 - 210 and am thinking about their 18 - 135. So what advantages does one have the other. To ofset the 500 I would want to trade in the 55 - 210.
Can someone please change the spelling of lense to lens. I don't know why people do that. There's no such word.
I own the 18 - 135 mm Sony OSS lens and all I can say is that it is a terrific lens. From reading reviews and watching YouTube videos I would say the 18-135 mm lens is a far better lens, but do not have the personal experience to compare.

There are worse grammatical errors on the ‘hog than this.
It would be more than a full-time job for someone to correct these.
Len’s comes to mind. Improper use of advise/advice, Cannon, defuser, not using punctuation or paragraphs....
“Lense is accepted as an alternative spelling by Webster's Third New International Dictionary, but proscribed as a misspelling by Garner's Modern American Usage, Paul Brians’ Common Errors in English Usage, Robert Hartwell Fiske's Dictionary of Unendurable English and others.”

There are bigger fish to fry .....
There isn't a "better" lens here. You are talking about different focal length ranges. Only you can make the determination.
Do you want wider coverage or longer reach?

What advantages does a ball peen hammer have over a claw hammer? It kind of depends on what you are trying to do.
Also what "500" are you talking about. Are you also considering a 500mm lens?

For the OP: When I had an APS-C Sony, I checked out the 55-210 and I found it not to be a sharp lens. I then bought an 18-105 "G" lens, and that was the best lens for APS-C. It was sharp, and quick to focus on both still and video. The 18-135 is new, and I have no experience with it, but the word on the street says it is as good as the 18-105. (the 18-105 is also an electric zoom) So you have to decide what type of shooting you want and if the quality is important.
The first one will give you a wider range and the one will give you more reach. It’s really very simple.

This common error grinds my gears, too. But, it at least conveys the information. Some of the illiteracy that exposed on UHH defies comprehension. And, I am thinking of people who appear to use English as a first language. I have given up being the World's grammarian and spell checker. If the message is clear, I move on.
