This post prompts me to think no car picture could work. Two headlights, four tires, but then just one steering wheel and one hood ornament.

I lost a photo contest because I had a photo of an even number or wagon wheels propped against a rail fence. They said I needed 3 or an odd number to win with this photo. I was very disappointed but will pay attention to the "odd" number rule.

Thanks! That's what I was trying for. The guys doing this reenactment strive for authenticity, even down to the cameras some of them are using.

Nice shot Sue, thanks for sharing - wished I still had one of them

The "rule of odds" allows one to position the subjects so that the observer's eye moves around/through the image. Just shooting odd numbers is not cutting it. Most of the images posted here are not that appealing.

Bob,

With all due respect, I think everyone here knows what the rule of "thirds" is. The original post refenced an odd number of subjects. Show us some of your appealing images please.

Hi DWHart24. With all due respect, we are not talking about the rule of "thirds." Blowhard...if you will!

Still don't see any of your appealing photos posted here. Why come on this thread if you don't have anything to add besides trolling?

Trolls in the Challenge section are pretty rare, don't let them discourage you..

Sheesh, it's a rule, not a law. Was it a good picture?

the rule of odds works. For an even number simply ensure that each object is connected to the other. Open spaces allows the eyes to wander off.

Corollary: if there are so many objects that you have to count them to see whether they are odd or even, you are NOT using the rule of odds. I’d say 3 and 5 are the magic numbers.

Responding to 'joelwexler' - there are no rules, only guidelines and I completely agree with his comment; 'was it a good picture?'
