Image sorting softwre?

Greetings everyone from GA, USA.

I am a Mac user in need of an application to sort images into a presentation format. I want sort the images (JPEGs) visually, by their content/appearance, then re-name them to maintain the sort order. Ideally, I'd like to sort using drag-and-drop so I can see the final product as it progresses.

The Presentation/Slideshow "solutions" I've found will only put the images in file-name or date-stamp order, which does not achieve my desired effect. And, most want to have the end result become a video, rather than individual images.

I thought this would be a simple task... but, no.

Anyone have a solution or suggestion?

TIA, Oldan

Lightroom does this easily, both the old standalone version and the subscription one (which I use). I recently set up a slideshow of several hundred photos to run on a revolving loop and did it with drag and drop ease. I saved it as a collection, which is easily found, edited, and re-saved.

Lightroom. You can assign keywords for subject sorting, or by quality, or place or date. Easy to cull photos. The resulting "Collections" from each set can be numerous. Say you go on a trip with wife and you want a set of buildings with wife in picture, another set of all buildings, another set with every shot your wife is in. Just by adding the keywords "building" and/or "wife" as appropriate, you can make separate subsets, adding as many keywords as you think might apply.

Most people here seem to really like Lightroom for that and in your case, it does everything you're asking for and it is very good at it! I myself prefer Bridge.

On1 Raw 2019 uses key words also and it even imports the key words from Lightroom.

I've done that many times - not for a slide show, but just because. After I get them in order, I highlight all of them, right-click, and select Rename. I give them a name, and they all get the same name with sequential numbers. Of course this is on a Windows machine, but Macs can also rename in bulk.

For slide shows I highly recommend ProShow Gold by Photodex. Easy to use.
