I was working on a project for my m-i-l with all the girls and this is the best one I got of my 5 year old. Her face is out of focus, is there anyway to sharpen it up or should I just got back and retake the photos?

There is a myth about sharpening in editing software, all you are doing is altering the contrast balance around the subject.
If it is out of focus, it is out of focus.
Retake the photograph your daughter deserves an in focus picture of herself and you should again enjoy the experience.

Beautiful little girl and cute setting. Show us the new, focused one when you capture it!

Ive seen more than my fair share of oversharpened images on the UHH. Especially with plugins. Even using sharpening to correct color. I just shake my head.

My guess would be that your focal point was her left hand rather than her face - at least thats' what my 76 year old refracted eyes convey to the brain

Your picture isn't out of focus. It looks like you moved the camera significantly horizontally. Shutter speed should have been fast enough, but guess it wasn't.

I agree, it looks like camera movement since there is no area anywhere in the photo that is really tack sharp. Great shots though, all are great as to composure, expression, background, etc. The others are also dead-on, so my expert opinion (???) is that the camera moved a little horizontally.
As I said, Great Shots and wonderful subjects.
Good Shooting

I will be the devil's advocate. I don't think you are focusing on the faces. They all could be sharper. At least that is what my eyes tell me.

You may want to stop down a little to increase the depth of field.

Also, I don't know what ISO you are using but I see too much grain for this kind of portrait work.

Could be all wet but that is what I see.

I would use same local and swing

Think you might reshoot the pic, tried to adjust it but not really any better.

ADJUSTED
