Seems most Nikon people are not reading your post. The only new Nikon dslr for under $600 is the D3400, a two lens kit is now $419, if you must have new it is a capable camera. I would recomend a used D7100, I personally think having a seperate control for shutter speed and aperture would make learning a lot easier. I would even concider a D7000 as that would leave more money for lenses. I am not familar with Canon but am sure there are plenty of used cameras that would fit your need.

Personally, I would strongly advise buying used or refurb for your first body. There are many good Nikon, Canon, Pentax, and Fuji models available in this price range. Pick either FX or DX system, depending on budget and needs, then buy a generation old body, good glass, and upgrade as finances permit.
