Back when I first started processing RAW files I tried exporting them as 16 bit tiff files. I quickly discovered that most of the tools in PSE would not work on those 16 bit files. Some years later I signed up for Adobe CC. So I tried using 16 bit tiff files in PSCC and encountered the same issue, that is some of the tools only worked on 8 bit files. My question is did I miss something, is it possible to edit 16 bit tiff files in PS?
From my experience with PSCC and 16 bit files, some of the filters will not work unless I convert to 8 bit. However, in reading your question, I'm not certain how you export a file as a TIFF. The choice of the type file I choose to save from the original RAW image happens when I save the image at the tail end of the process. An additional issue for me with a 16 bit TIFF image is he size of the file. I really don't need 50MB and 60MB images clogging up my computer. I rarely print anything.
After I process the RAW image in LR, I export it as a tiff file for further editing in PSE/PSCC.
