Took this picture in the redwoods of northern California. My wife was mortified that I laid down on my belly in the middle of the trail to take the picture-but it won 1st place in the California Fish & Game photo contest, Invertebrate Class. They can grow up to 10 inches long and are the official mascot of the University of California Santa Cruz.

Nice photo! My fond memory is of when our daughter was about 2 and in a restaurant, my hubby ordered a chili cheese omelette. Out came a beautiful plate with a long canned green pepper on top of the omelette. My daughter piped up loudly, 'Oooh a banana slug!'

Nice shot, and congrats on the award. The UC Santa Cruz banana slug mascot has an appropriate slogan...”No known predators!” So your subject is probably safe. jak

Did you know that the Banana Slug is only found in the Santa Cruz mountains of California. I believe that that football team of the University of California at Santa Cruz is called the Banana Slugs. I lived in San Jose, CA for over 20 years and saw many Banana Slugs in Boulder Creek.
