The cartridges included with the Pro 100 look exactly the same as what you buy, except they're marked "SETUP".... In addition, Canon themselves confirms the included inks are a "setup ink set" in the specifications and description of the printer.

Those "setup" tanks actually may contain the same or MORE ink than the standard cartridges. HOWEVER, a lot of ink is consumed initially setting up the printer, so you can rest assured they will be exhausted a lot faster than subsequent sets.

The regular ink tanks for the Pro 100 each hold 13ml of ink. I wish the Pro 100 ink cartridges were bigger... but then they'd undoubtely cost more. I've used HP B9180 printer for years too, which has far larger ink tanks (around 36ml, if I recall correctly. But they also cost almost 3X what the Canon Pro 100's do.

I only use OEM inks in my printers... in spite of the higher cost. The only experiences I've had with third party inks were many years ago, but weren't very happy. Problems with clogging heads and fading prints.

I have been using inks from LD Products for some time with no issues. Currently using a PRO 100 Canon, previously a Pixma Pro 9000.

Happy Shooting

The i cartridges /i included with the Pro 100 lo... (show quote)

My personal experience 18 months ago when I bought by second Pro-100 was exactly the opposite. Because people on this forum had said you got "trial" ink, I was looking for it.

I think the wording from Canon is trying to say it comes with ink for setup. In other words, it comes with ink.

There were no markings suggesting "Setup". The tanks are transparent. You can see the ink in them. It was the same. Because I was replacing a printer that died, I had been on the phone with Canon. When I asked, they said they didn't make "setup" cartridges, but you got ink for setting it up.

A further bonus came when I asked if I could use the partially used tanks from the old "broken" printer. Canon's help line said, "I don't see why not. Try it." I tried it and it worked fine. All the new ink went into my inventory for future use.

Again, my experience was 18 months ago, so maybe things have changed.

I’m starting to print a lot more at home as I’ve found the color with my pro 100 printer far superior to those I’ve had printed elsewhere. On the flip side the cost of the canon ink is extremly high. I’ve read that some after market inks can cause clogging. Is there a compatible ink that doesn’t cause clogging and gives the rich color I’ve come accustome to with the canon ink?
Yes - Canon ink!

I use a Pro-100 printer as well. I love it. I use precision ink for this printer. I promise you will not regret if you buy their ink and use it. 2 years now and no problems. The big advantage is it matches the canon ink set perfectly. The best thing about them is provide ICC profiles for the most popular papers. I have a calibrated monitor. I downloaded their profiles from their web site for Red River paper. The prints match my monitor every time when I use their profiles with photo shop or light room. You are welcome to Message me if you have any questions.

Happy printing,

Jeff

Check out Precision Colors. They have a great refill system and I have no trouble with their inks. The "printing Techie" Jose Rodrigues talks a lot about them and has a lot of helpful videos on re-filling. Here is a link to his u-tube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz9YXaSulpM90vC24lmAeZA.

Hope this helps.

I am an Epson user, I would stand by Epson inks forever, yes they cost more. But they don't fade, are more scratch resistant. I am sure the same can be said of Canon inks. I also now only buy from Epson, have purchased fake stuff at 3rd party retail, printer would not use the cart. I have a Clarion, Picturemate, Epson 7900 24 inch printer. Would never consider using anything but Epson inks in them. I have used 3rd party inks in cheap desk top printers that I was not printing photos with for archival, saw the magenta fade away in few months time. You get what you pay for. The ink for my Picturemate is even water resistant as well as the inks for the 7900.

When I sell picture for $200.00 do I really want to save pennies on the ink when it's with my name or it? NO
