You might PM Bill Burk (Burkphoto) - he has extensive experience in this area.

thanks Trix.
I will follow up with Bill Burke as you suggest. This quest has been on back burner for a couple of weeks due to other commitments - hence my delay in responding - for which I sincerely apologize.

I am not an expert in this area, but do have some experience. My local photo club just bought a Benq 4k projector for use during our meetings. It works verry well. Our local school district also uses Benq projectors as their standard in classrooms. I do not know how reliable these are considered to be. The challenge is that the ones I have seen all have fairly short throw lenses and therefore somewhat limited final image sizes (84-96 inches or so) and correspondingly limited brightness. Projectors capable of larger and bringhter images get expensive pretty quickly. There is a formula relating the screen diagonal to the distance to the farthest audience member. I can't remember exactly what it is, but maybe Bill wil also chime in on that.

While WiFi will be convenient, add a hard wire junction box as a fail-safe, if possible. Screen Mirroring, Casting, and AppleTV, that rely on WiFi and Bluetooth can work nicely for still images and PowerPoint advances, but often fall short when the 30 fps of video is needed.

Good to know and thanks for the help. My apologies for the delay in answering. No offence intended just got busy in other areas.
Best wishes for the holiday season

How large a hall? How large a screen do you need? Is there an available wall that could work for a painted screen?

Thanks dsmeltz
To belatedly answer your questions as asked.

1. Hall seats 180 people and has a raised stage.
2. Not sure how big a screen will be needed.
3. No suitable wall available.

Just starting this quest and you ask questions re size etc that hadn't occurred to me - duh! Appreciate the heads up and will seek some definitive answers.
Sorry it has taken me this long to respond I have no real excuse save I got busy in other areas.
Sincerely
Steve

I'm thinking of presentation devices and apps such as AirParrot which can allow a PC to talk to AppleTV.

Got it! Thanks

jmizera is correct. My club uses an Espon projector (I do not know the model #) it has two usb in-ports with a remote control unit. The also purchased a powered Da-Lite screen with the best surface. Going this way is also my recommendation.

Thanks Chapjohn for both of your responses and my apologies for the length of time it has taken me to respond. I have all Epson equipment so do have a bit of a bias in their direction but will research the other products that have been mentioned.
Have a great holiday season and New Year

I have yet to bite the bullet, but every time I have researched it, I have ended up with a Ben-Q at the top of my list. I expect there will be sales in a couple days. Also B&H has had them on the Daily Deals page several times.

Thanks again.
What makes it highest on your list when compared to the likes of Epson equipment?

Every time I look at any piece of equipment I research recent news, reviews and sales info on the category. So each time it is different. But over time Ben-Q has been consistently at or near the top.

It is sort of like driving habits by car brand. While lists vary, every list of bad driving by car brand has BMW drivers at or near the top. So I give BMWs a lot more room on the road just to be safe.
