You can pick up a D800 or D800e in excellent to like new condition on the used market for a lot less than you'd pay for a new D810 and they're just about the same camera. If you have a D800. D800e now....either go for the D850 or just stand pat. My two cents. I too am waiting to see the feedback on the Z6 over the next 4-6 months before I decide to pursue that one.

Thank you for your advice unfortunately I do not own any of the cameras you mentioned

It might be helpful to you to know what lenses I use on the D810:

85mm f/1.4
28-70 f/2.8
80-200 f/2.8
80-400 f4-5.6 VR

Had / have a D800 and was looking for a used D810, but then started reading about the AF system on the D850 and ended up buying one. Yes, it will take me a couple of months to dig out, but I'm glad I did it. I have read the opinions of professionals that the D850 is the best dslr ever made. Maybe or maybe not, but it is one hell of a camera.

Good to know. I try to make decision slowly and carefully I still bought at least one camera at the early stage of digital photography which was a major mistake cost me a $1000.00 almost 20 years ago. I still have the camera. I think the 850 is a good choice
Thanks for your help

Just sold mine... Too big, unwieldy, heavy, wearisome, huge expensive heavy lenses & intimidating for some subjects. I also found for most of my photography it was not any better than much more compact equipment that doesn't require a roller bag to schlepp. Having said all this, it was the hot ticket years ago. Back then I liked it. Now, not so much as modern technology has made ownership of fine photographic gear a lot easier to purchase and manage. Enjoy...

a bit hesitant to get into the Z6 model, it is just too new.

I can't prove this but I know it's true: Having a high-end (read heavy) DSLR mounted with a high-end (read heavy and fast) lens makes more certain that the image you shoot will be closer to what you're hoping for than if you shoot a lighter weight (read cheaper) DSLR with a lighter weight (read cheaper and slower) lens. Of course not every time and of course not with every "lesser" combination. Just usually. I'm a lifelong woodworker and I have many times seen or heard masters in the craft say that if you have really nice (read better made and expensive) tools you will thereby be inspired to do better work than you'd do with lesser implements. And have you ever noticed that a "big" lens has actually intimidated a subject? I don't mean to suggest hyperbole; it's just that I've never had it happen.

I always bought high end cameras as well as computers not for work, but for fun
My last camera is not an expensive one, but it was lighter than a Nikon at 80 years of age touring whole days carrying a heavy camera is not easy, so I chose a light one, but even though having a Zeiss lens the quality of the pictures are not the same, so I might have to walk less but carry a better camera. Thanks for your advice

I am very happy with my D810. Though I have borrowed and used a D850 and it is a step up worth making. I have no firsthand knowledge of the Z6. I also have a D800, which has a certain quality that is somehow missing from my D810 - but it's performance is not as "snappy" as the D810, nor does it have the highlight protection metering mode, group autofocus.

I purchased the D810 in March of 2017, love it. If I had waited 5 months could have got the D850 for the same price. The D850 does not have the on camera flash, which can be handy for some things. The movable view screen on the D850 would be nice, since my back issues make it difficult to get down low. For me the difference in MP is not an issue. I am happy with the D810, no regrets.
