View finder just a tad fuzzy..D5100

When I look thru the viewfinder on the D5100, the focus is not correct..it's just a wee bit off and the diopter adjustment will not correct it..It seems the photos it takes are not affected..I also looked thru another 5100 and a 3100 and they were the same...I checked a Canon T3i today and it was ok....I'm thinking about returning the Nikon and getting the Canon (I've only had the Nikon about a month).....I've read the reviews and the cameras seem close in performance..what are your thoughts, would this be a good move?
Thanks,
Steve

I have the D5100 and terrible eyesight. The stock diopter would not completely clear up the viewfinder but after I added more correction via Nikon made external diopter it is clear as a bell. It is even clearer than my vision with glasses !

Thank you, that may be what I need...I'm pretty sure it's my eyesight and not the camera. I think a Canon must have a little more adjustment than the Nikon....

Glad to hear about the custom diopter, did not know that was available.

Dont forget, most nikon dslr allow some adjustment on the eye piece via a small round button near the top of the camera. Usually has "+.....-" on it?

Good luck.

That is the diopter adjuster.
