A plea that we use helpful thread titles...and avoid useless ones like "Need recommendations."

If I look down a list of topics on any particular day, there seem to be several topic titles like, "Should I buy this camera?" So the reader has to click on the topic just to find out what camera is involved and whether s/he has anything to contribute. Or whether the reader might be interested in the answer. With a dozen or two topics each day, this would be a lot of unnecessary clicking if everyone did it. Thankfully, everyone doesn't, but everyone who peruses the topic list has to click on it to discover what it's about. This is a request to be considerate of your fellow Hogs. Take a little time to think how to include a maximum of info in the topic title without using 1000 characters. We owe it to each other.

I know this has been addressed from time to time but the evidence is that it needs to be re-addressed now and then...and again.

I especially like "Help" or "Question." Easy enough to skip...

Not to mention those kind of titles are totally worthless for a search!

You may as well wish for world peace, or for democrats and republicans to agree they are BOTH idiots!
Just not gonna happen, hasn't happened in the 7 years this site has existed and surely won't happen in the next 7 years either.

Yes, unfortunately.

I feel the same about useless thread titles as I do about the constant "looks better in download."

I think you are an optimist and that is a good think. I've been told recently by a couple of people that I am a pessimist, but my belief is that I am simply a realist. Optimistically if we could just get everyone to put exactly what they what to say, with all the specifics and in a way we can understand, in the title and the paragraph that would be wonderful; pessimistically if people could just think enough to actually stutter out the actual problem that would help immensely. Realistic, if the heading and the problem match we'd be doing good and if there was actually an understandable question being asked we'd be doing great. It's just so darn hard to get it all together when we are all so different in how we approach life, how we were educated, our cultural backgrounds, our sex/gender identification, our hopes, dreams, desires. It's a wonder that it ever works at all.

I like to think I'm not a pollyanna, but I do think that an occasional reminder can tamp down the numbers a bit. Since I had not seen a post like this for a while, I felt it was time. I worried that my post might be as distracting as those I was criticizing, but at least (I like to think) everyone knew what they were getting in for, i.e., knew the issue.

Yeah, it has been a day or so since a similar post was initiated.

I just don't click on anything that's not titled well, I don't have the time nor the interest. That solves it for me.
