Travels With Bob........Departing Amsterdam.......
When our ship left Amsterdam, at the beginning of our 14 day cruise, it was interesting. (Sept 2, 2018) Of course I was all over the ship capturing various photos and will share a few. We were greeted by a small boat flotilla as we cruised along this waterway towards the ocean. Notice that barge & see how close they get to our ship. It upset the captain and he filed a complaint which he later explained to us over the intercom. Further comments attached to the pictures. Welcome aboard!! Bob
(1) We were enjoying the warm sendoff from Amsterdam that this small boat flotilla was giving us. Notice the barge.

(2) That barge is making its way closer & closer to our ship which apparently is against the rules! They didn't create any problems for us .....just for the captain who wanted to protect all of us! I was just enjoying the flotilla....unaware!

(4) Interesting building. Notice the people gathered on the top of the building to the right. They were waving & so did we!

(5) OK.....here I go......making my way to the back of the ship!

(6) Farewell Amsterdam.......

(7) The Netherlands are below sea or water levels & this housing area along this waterway shows just how they need to build up the land to control flooding.

(8) A couple of hours has passed. We are about to enter this lock where water levels are adjusted before entering the ocean. This would be the front of the ship.

(9) We're in place & the gate is closing. This is at the back of the ship.

(10) I understand that about six inches of water adjustment was made & then we entered the Sea! Bon Voyage!

Bob Happy Birthday!!
Thank you! Nice surprise......I didn't think anyone on UHH would catch that one. Since it's now 12:34 AM perhaps I should just stay up & observe myself aging another year!! At least I have the 16th off!
Good set. Thanks for taking us with you.
Interesting shots. Thanks for posting.
Nice again, Bob. I enjoy traveling along with you through your photos.
The A'DAM tower, from which the people were waving, features a swing suspending riders over the edge of the roof, 100 meters above the ground. The hoist is visible on the right corner.
Interesting shots. i hope you didn't get too out of breath running from one end of the ship to the other (-:

Thanks Kishka for the interesting information on the A'DAM tower that you spotted in one of my photos. That was something I was unaware of as we cruised past the area. You gave me a good reason to take a much closer look into that shot! Much appreciated, Bob
