Looking to buy Lightroom Adobe Photography Plan. There are a rangeof Subscription options concerning Cloud. For example. there is a $9.99 option with LR Classic, LR CC, Photoshop and CC for 20GB. The same software with one TB for $14.99. I have seen various articles about Adobe increasing the pricing for their cloud. Can one use another (potentially cheaper) Cloud service or is there an inherent need to use the Adobe cloud for LR.

I have the basic plan Lightroom CC, Lightroom CC Classic and Photoshop and 20GB cloud. Only use cloud storage for LR CC to share photos with my mobile devices. Does everything I need. I use external hard drives for back-up.

The plan I have is $10.61 / month and is called the "photography plan (20GB)". I believe it was $9.99 / month before the last price increase.

I guess the first question I'd ask is why do you think you need Adobe Cloud?

Looks like they are making Adobe charge you Sales Tax. The increase matches the TX rate. Good (and sad) for all of us to know.

Thanks for the response. Because it is part of the $9.99 offer. The related question on the importance of the Adobe Cloud (and wheter there is an inherent reason to use it) has now been answered by the back up (non Cloud) storage responses.

You need to decide whether you're going to be a user of Lightroom CC (the cloud-based service) or Lightroom CC Classic (the PC-based service). In my opinion, Adobe's charges for storage are quite high. Also IMO, LR CC, though they have expanded its features, is still limited vs. Classic. But, if you're big on social media, then LR CC may be an attractive choice. There are better ways to back up your files. Aside from the price, back and restore is very slow via a cloud service.

Lightroom and Photoshop are not the only good PP applications out there, but they are at or near the top of the heap. One of the nice things about them is the available books, youtube videos, online tutorials, ... Because its a subscription, they are constantly updating the suite of apps and the updates are part of the package. There are other apps you can try that are part of the package and other to add like Illustrator, which is one of the premiere page make up apps. A nice thing about it is the large number of users in the photography community so you can get help really quick by searching the blogs or posting on a forum like UHH.

I have the Adobe Cloud Photo plan ($9.99 per month) and it has 10gb of "in cloud" storage. The ONLY thing that I use the Adobe Cloud storage for is to transfer images from my cell phone to the computer or to transfer images from my computer LR to the phone. I love the Cloud / LR /Photoshop though and use it multiple times per day. I have been a member since it was first introduced (having initially purchased Adobe LR on disc. I highly recommend the Cloud... By the way, when I've had "special projects", Adobe has allowed be it increase my Cloud apps temporarily while doing the projects. I had the Full Cloud for about 3 months then they allowed me to go back to the $9.99 plan after the project was through. They also told me that, if my needs arise again, they will be happy up provide the "temporary" upgrade. And, yes, for the 3 months, I did have to pay the full $65 per month (or whatever that price was for the full package per month) but it was minor compared to purchasing Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Behance and InDesign individually or paying the full Cloud price indefinitely.

You already own a hard disk. It's reponse time is much faster than "the Cloud"'.

If you need to use Lightroom on mobil devices (is that possible?) maybe there
is some benefit.

Your acess to Adobe's "Cloud" depends on cable or telephone service, your ISP,
its, upstream provider, various other servers (e.g., DNS) and the Internet backbone.
My Intenet service goes down quite frequently.

If you are serious about learning to edit images this is the way to go. If you have to worry that Adobe will increase their prices slightly you need to find something cheap, free or don't change what you are currently using. I have been using Adobe's Creative Cloud since the beginning. I use it every day. I work hard learning the tasks that I can accomplish and I find it to be the best bargain around. I also use Illustrator and InDesign and a couple more.

I have the subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud and the additional 1TB of storage which is backup for all my photos. I find CC, Classic and PS very useful and worth the $21 per month I pay. I shoot every day, either on travels, in my neighborhood while walking dog, or bird watching from my back yard. All my files go immediately, after culling, to both Lightroom editions, Backblaze, and several hard drives. The CC version is very useful with its "Sharing" protocol allowing me to accumulate files in a folder with a creation of a link that can be sent to anyone. I have thousands of family pictures that I can now share easily. As an example, here is a sample, of my grandson's recent football games that I shot: https://adobe.ly/2NxXq1J. CC doesn't yet have a print mode, but it isn't difficult to send a picture to a file and then copy to Classic. I have two Canon Pro 100 printers that I use every day. I'm 78, carry my 77D and a 100-400 lens (it ain't heavy, it's my camera). Missie, my dog, halts patiently while I shoot away on our morning "walkie talkies." Creative Cloud is absolutely worth every penny.

Actually, you are misinformed. If the internet is down, the cloud still works unless it has been 30 days since it last reported. The Adobe apps are installed ON YOUR HARDDRIVE. The only time the Cloud goes to the internet is for updates, reinstallation.. and I have it installed on 7 computers (4 desktops and 3 laptops) and it is fine for the $9.99 subscription as long as only two are logged in at any given time. If you try to log a third, it tells you that the two are already used and offers to turn off one or both while you work. If you do that, then later you can restart the other and turn off the extra. This is how I do 7 computers on two licenses.
