I saw this guy in the garden while looking out the window. I was using my 300mm zoom. I then went out and measured.

I enlarged as far as I dare go without losing resolution completely just to see what I could do.

Great catches. You did a great job. Thanks for sharing and I'm hoping to get a long view also when I go to the coast in the fall.

Thanks. It is kind of fun to push a lens to its' limits and still have a photo.

Good job!!! Plant leaves look a lot like my blu-black salvia but the bloom looks different for sure.

It is an Anise Hyssop "Black Adder".

I need to grow some Anise. Did you know that, if a horse gets scared half to death or excited (as in a storm), you can rub a little Anise in his/her nostrils and they will calm down right away. Try it on yourself sometime when you are very excited :lol: (no smart alec remarks). If it smells like licorice, it's the right kind .

My wife did that to me one time and it ruined the mood.

Your hummers must like that heat wave you're having because they don't seem very plentiful here. I understand they go all the way into Canada during spring and summer migration. You've shown me more than I've seen around here all summer---thanks for sharing.........
