Hi..
My wife & I visited northern Italy back in September.
While there we visited a beautiful Garden. On the way out I saw and bought a DVD of the Garden.
The vender said that it was in English.
Upon getting it home I found that it wouldn't play in our player.
I have been told that European DVD'S had different file formats then us.
I looked on the cover and the files all had different extensions then anything I have seen before.
The cover does have different flags on it, one of which is England.
The seller said that it would work in the USA.
Does anyone know if there is some resolve to this dilemma?
Try downloading VLC mediaplayer onto your PC . Its a free program
Your DVD player may have a way to play the disc, but you'll need to google this. Sometimes you can use a button combination or similar to unlock multi region capability.

You need a multi-format/version-DVD player to play it, I have one from Akai (that was very cheap), but is still holding up well after all these years. With it I can play any DVD from any country!

They are not zones but formats! The US uses the NTCS format, while most of Europe uses the PAL format!

They are also made to play certain zones(!) depending on which country the machine is intended for. Many have the capability to play any region. Mine should play any dvd from any country, even an NTSC (not NTCS) discs. I haven't yet had the chance to test it. It does however require a button combination when the disc tray is open.
I thought several of the newer machines might have a PAL switch on them Consult the mfctr/model's manual.
I have heard that some software programs like Pinnacle can convert DVDs from one version to the other. Once you load the DVD in the program, you can export it in the desired format.
