I'm new here but have been trolling for a year. Loads of experience and much needed advice I must say.

With reference to the Canon EOS 7D update, you can now get shutter count if you look on Menu and then rotate main dial to last wrench icon. Select Battery info and there you are. Thanks for all your help.

I havent updated to ver 2.0 yet. But, I recently went into battery info to register my battery and noticed the shutter count field. I thought it was linked to the battery and the number of pictures taken on the battery since it appears under the battery info section.

Done. No issues. Looking forward to the volume control on videos even though I rarely take videos on the 7d.

Volume control works, but still no stereo using external microphones. That would take a hardware upgrade. Sigh...

It is the number of shutter activations remaining on the installed battery.
But who uses that? The battery life indicator on the top LCD is more easily monitored, and it depends greatly on how you are shooting (flash, live view, AF, etc.)

That is NOT new with firmware 2.0 - It has always been there. And it is only the number of shutter activations remaining on the installed battery.

Well, I guess I blew that one. Just never noticed it. Old eyes must not register anymore.

That gives you the shutter count since you put a newly charged battery in the camera. Every time you put a new battery in it resets to 0 shutter count.

I have the battery grip on my 7D and my last fully charged set of batteries got me over 2500 images and still had 30% charge left.
