This little guy, and his brother who is out of the picture, remained still for several minutes...apparently in fear of a Red Tail Hawk that had just flown into the area. With his classic squirrel pose and the autumn leaves, I just had to take the shot.

Yes, he made it out safely...someone walking their dog came along right under the tree. The squirrel's concern about the dog trumped his fear about the hawk. So he decided it was better to move to a safer spot.
Or maybe he used the dog, walker, and photographer as cover to move to a new spot, figuring the hawk would stay away with such a crowd nearby.
