The background is knitted poppies and are in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW1 which was celebrated on November 11th.

The church is decorated with over 62,000 poppies that have been sent in from all over the world. Well worth seeing if one lives nearby.

Very striking display. The light and reflections on the lectern add a lot of interest and emphasize the shapes and details.

There’s a lot of work gone into that background - and it’s happened all over the country. Let’s hope everyone keeps remembering, even after this special year. An interesting image.

The lectern was memorable to me from when I visited the church during our stay in GB in the late 60's. The poppies make a great background.

There is indeed. Not to say about the other about 62,000 hand made poppies in the church.

I really like this image. My wife crocheted similar poppies and handed them out to friends at school. Not everyone figured out what they were all about at first; but once they knew what they were about, the folks were appreciative. This image is very striking and just plain makes you think about where we have been and perhaps where we are headed. I like to remain positive and have hope that we can avoid the mistakes of the past as we move inexorably into the future.

Interesting color combination and composition. Very nice. If you didn't mention it was a lectern it would never have crossed my mind.
