took this close up using reverse lens technique just thought if anyone didnt understand how aperture is changed in a lens
this is an old manual lens that i took to bits out of interest i have no chance of putting it back together though (didnt know how complicated lenses are ) no wonder they cost an arm and a leg!
anyway as you can see the blades rotate to create the hole? this aperture is fully closed ie about f16 hope if anyone was wondering that is how it is done

Neat picture - Love how apertures work
Thanks. For some reason it gives me a better understanding of the term aperture. I guess i do better with pictures.
Outstanding idea and delivery...!!!
Sometimes we forget the things we take for granted in this biz...it's hard to put yourself in the position of someone who has just picked up their first camera. This gets right to the nitty...gritty.

Thank you Paul for the first time I can understand just what Aperture is about
Trying to remember it previously was a nightmare but now I can visualise your rev.lens technique

Now if possible you should show a couple at f8 and f4 to show how it opens up to leave more light in.......

Very nice. Reminds me of a case when I was teaching commercial photog many years ago and was asked what was the best camera. My answer was that I could take pictures with a cigar box with a hole in it ... and did... then as a better explaination of apature, we taped a large piece of photostat paper on the back wall of our dark room, put a thumb tack hole in the wall, left it over night and the next day had a fairly good picture of the class room on the other side of the wall. I do have a question though, do thease modern day cell phone cameras that have different size settings have variable apatures?
