My brother Keith died in Nam 1972 in a special mission rescuing prisioners of war who were about to be kill in a prison five clicks from Hanoi. Out of all the troops and prisoners that were saved Keith and the wounded solider he was carrying on is shoulder to free they were ambushed 100 feet from the firebase they were trying to reach. Keith's body still remains in Nam along with all of his personal items. The only thing l was given was a burial flag from the government. His purple hearts, silver star and bronze metal are still in Nam never to be given to his family. This is my Veterans Day story.

Why would his brother's medals /awards be in Vietnam north or South? Wouldn't the appropriate branch of the military issue those to the family members ? This Vietnam vet is confused will someone clear this up ? I will be grateful thank you very much.

injured by ponji and carried for 21/2 days to safety by my partner.
3 months later he was injured by friendly ordinance because no one knew we were there. hid out for 3 days, sometimes within 10' of the Cong patrols. thank you Mr. Ghillie. he almost died, but after 5 days of maneuvering we got to bush lz for evac and he made it.
brothers then and for life.

I have never told this story before but this seemed like a good day and place to do so.

My brother Keith's unit was not a US Military Unit. Government officials came into the Special Forces and Green Beret Units looking for certain members for special military services not government issued. It was thru the CIA or another higher government agencies that theses troops were evolved with. This is why everything is still there.

This sounds suspiciously like my own story of experiences. So sorry for your lost brother.

My brother and myself both Viet War Vets. thanks to all who served. Sour things for life for those who dishonor the flag and anthem.

You can request your brother's medals by submitting an SF180 form (Google will find the form). The instruction for submission for each branch of service are on the reverse side of the form.

I was SF for 18 years, two tours in Nam. SF and the Green Berets are one and the same. Green Beret came from John Wayne. We often worked with the CIA. Have no idea what this means. (special military services not government issued)

Forgot to add in the post that I am also a Vietnam Veteran and l am just happy to be alive. I was a chopper gunner until the end of the war then l was ask to help with getting our boys out of Saigon. Then after this was over changed branches and finish my tour in a SAC Unit in Grand Forks head house. So l seen it all too.
