Birds in Florida.....
I will be in Florida in a couple of weeks looking for birds to photograph. I will be in and around the Ft. Myers area. Can anyone suggest good places to shoot.
Thanks
Bill
Corkscrew NE of Naples, and a nice loop drive just north of Canaveral.
That loop is called Black Point Drive . Driving on dikes . Get to Titusville and across the intra-costal bridge (drive that bridge 30MPH !!!)..you get to Parish Park ...drive straight thru untill you get to sharp road curve to right (East). But you need to go straight instead - be carefull there . It is 55MPH and it is a back entrance to NASA= people drive it fast.
Good luck Miro

When you drive from Ft Myers to Cape Coral there is a really good nature walk just across the bridge. It’s one of the best places in Florida.

Thanks for the suggestions......my camera will be tired when i get back for sure...

The best place for bird photography in the Fort Myers area is Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island.
Little Estero Lagoon on Fort Myers Beach usually has bird activity. Venice Rookery is about a one hour drive and is good for birds in flight. Cape Coral is famous for burrowing owls - definitely worth the trip if you haven't photographed them previously.
The best places to find burrowing owl nests are near the library and the Pelican Baseball Complex.
Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is closest and has many birds, Corkscrew sanctuary is another popular spot not far from Ft Meyers and is also excellent for birding. The time of the year is most important though!
Cape Coral Library is an easy, quick way to see burrowing owls although they can be seen in other places in Cape Coral.
Take the 30 min. drive out to Lake Trafford.

The Circle B Bar between Lakeland and Winter Haven is a marvelous spot for wildlife photography, and it’s free. Everything from Egrets, Painted Buntings to Lipmkins and alligators can be seen there. Barred owls nes there as well as Red Sholdered Hawks, Snail Kites... the list goes on.
Imho Ding Darling is close and well worth a visit
