Thank you - I must admit, I was a draft dodger. I received my notice to report for a physical in 1966 and immediately joined the Navy. My reasoning was that everyone who was drafted in those days went into the Army and ended up walking through jungles with M16s. Al least in the Navy, I was on a ship with armor plating and had twin 5"/38 guns (I was on a tin can.) Got real lucky during my time in. God Bless all those who went in harm's way.
All gave some and some gave all
And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some gave all..

Jim, I was on a tin can also, but in 1968. The USS Robert A. Owens - DD-827. Did a Med cruise in 1969.
My ship was the USS Holder (DD819), based out of Norfolk. This picture was taken before the conversion to add ASROC midships.
Thank You for your story Hugs to you

We already had ASROC at that time.
We had ASROC aboard when I was a Gunner’s Mate. This picture was taken before ASROC was installed on the Holder.
