The grandkids are coming. Does anybody know how to make a ready-to-color page from a photo? I have PSE #9. I would love to keep them busy with a quiet project or two.

Is there a cartoon or sketch or outline preset?

Try this: Take your photo into PS and run the saturation slider all the way left to make it black and white, go to Filters>Find Edges, then Image>Adjustments>Levels and play with the grey slider until it looks like you want it. Save to a 8X10 JPG and print.

We've got a 17 month old grand daughter who has just started trying to draw. You've given me a great idea. Thanks!

PicSketch in Apple store (mac only). Not sure it does exactly what you want and the image would need to be fairly simply for coloring purposes. Here is an example. I use it for playing around with various photos.

For Apple iOS and optimized for Apple smartphones, consider Inkwork developed by Code Organa LLC. This app easily turns photos into sketches that could be colored by children with crayons. You can change the shade/tone of the drawing and the background.

Your camera might be able to do it. My D7200 has a nice feature that allows me to convert a photo into a "color outline" which looks just like a coloring book page. Just print it.

I was going to say what Ken said....look in your camera retouch settings. The 7200 has the color outline. Easy! I turned pictures of my daughter and son-in-law into coloring pages for the kids at their wedding reception.

Here's a few suggestions:

In PSE, there might be a filter that will render the photo into a line drawing. I know that my ver. 11 and 14 can do that.

WOW! I never knew that. Guess I better look at the manual again.

This turns out to be much easier than I thought. In PSE I simply clicked on the filter for "sketch" and then "photocopy" and presto! BE SURE you have black set for your background color.

I found this in You Tube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K43-_zhQZiM - This is a Photoshop technique
Plus this coloring book software http://www.hothotsoftware.com/create_free_coloring_books_printable_software/ . This is currently on sale as a direct download for $29.95. I'm not affiliated with the company.
Personally I've always used the tools in Photoshop That will do basically the same thing but this seems almost painless and a lot faster. watch the video first to decide. I used to make coloring pages for my daughter with Photoshop and sketches of some of my models
