Upgrade to Mojave etc

I recently upgraded to Mojave - LR and PS seem OK but I have lost a lot of functions in Word, I have a 27 inch Mac - I can type a message on the page but when I press print it wipes everything clean, that is from the file and print menu next to the Apple logo.

If I press print from the little icon I have to press for instance five times to get five copies, all really weird.

A couple of the drop down menus just get the 'hanging' ball. Has anyone experienced anything since upgrading. Also my print menu for any icon now takes forever to talk to the actual printer. All little nasty things that drive you mad.

Mojave is recommended for 2012 and newer Macs. I'll leave mine the way they are. I wonder if this is a sneaky plan by Apple to force new purchases. The older computers can't use the new OS, but the new OS may be necessary for something in the future. I think there are too many old Macs in use for Apple to intentionally cripple them.

Linda, if you look back a few days at my posts, you will find a complete condemnation of Mojave. My entire computer is so messed up. I could not get into safari, i could not get into the internet at all, my email was so messed up that i could not get or send anything. I am typing this on my wife's Microsoft lap top. Apple would not take any responsibility, Comcast said it was an Apple problem, and Earthlink, said it was everyone elses problem. So i guess it was my problem because i installed mojave to begin with. I am in the process of wiping my computer clean and re-installing the previous operating system, High Sierra. Hopefully it will be back to normal again.

P.S. Jerry, my I-mac is about 8 months old. If what you say is true, then I should have been ok. Right?

I installed Mohave on my 2017 MBP... and had some minor inconveniences, i.e., all my desktop icons disappeared and LR has again that irritating habit of side panels disappearing after zooming in/out- which may be a LR problem. All-in-all, nothing egregious and, it'll be OK...

I worked in a place were Mac's and PC were used. The Mac's were always were a pain as Apple was always doing weird things that caused unnecessary trouble. Finally they were banned.

I have always found AppleCare willing and able to help. Give them a call and end your frustration.

My biggest problem after installing Mojave was re-activating my iCloud account. It would not accept my account, (e.g. "xxxx@mac.com"). Called Apple Support. Very helpful. The fix was to enter "xxxx@icloud.com" rather than "xxxx@mac.com or perhaps "xxxx.me.com". Reactivation then worked. My email account name did not change.

It's all about the move to 64 bit processors and memory. Software written for 64 bit only machines or 32 bit in crippled mode are more likely to have bugs and I predict it will take a couple of future updates to deal with such bugs. But keep in mind that future releases of Mac OS won't run anything requiring 32 bit software, such as current Lightroom or Photo Shop which are not 100% 64 bit compatible yet. Let's hope Adobe gets with the program and converts their 32 bit components to 64 bits in time. Meanwhile, don't upgrade to Mojave if you don't have 64 bit cpu and other chips on your Mac.

As for running Microsoft badware like Word on a Mac for compatibility with Windows correspondents ... probably not worth the hassle. I just ask people trying to send me native Word docs to convert them to PDF's or rich text when saving and before sending them.

I bought my MBP just before taxes were due at the insistence of my lovely wife. It has the auto update turned on so it updates at night when I am here am at work or sleeping depending on when they come out with the update. the only problem I am here have is if my mouse gets close to the edge of the computer it will enlarge the screen, I am here then have to go out of the screen/website to get to return to normal. It was doing this before the new OS was installed. Other then that no problems.
