I've met a man near here who is called the "Quail King' in our part of the desert near Palm Springs. He feeds the quail every day before dusk. One day he found one with a broken leg and took it into his house to mend the leg. He was a working man then and after it was healed he would come home it would be waiting for him to take it inside. After 5 years he came home and found it dead on his floor.
He also fed the coyotes a few blocks away in the wild. One day the two parents brought a cub in it's mouth and set it by his feet. He picked it up and took it into his home to show his wife, then brought it back outside, set it down. Then the parents picked it up and went there way.
This man, John Shaw, has a way with animals we all should enjoy.
Your quail photo brought him bacl to my mind. It is a wonderful photo you should be proud of.
When I was laid up, I used to sit on the deck and talk (whistle) back and forth with the males in the yard(10 acres) at sunrise and sunset. I was easily amused.
