On a recent trip to Vegas I booked a one day bus trip to the South Rim of the GC. A long 15 hour day of which only 3 hours were actually spent at the Canyon. This was just enough time to hike the Rim Trail from Mather Point to the Visitor Center. Along with mostly dark skies and a bit of rain, I found photographing this spectacular site from only above the Rim quite limiting. The first photo was taken near the Hoover Dam just after sunrise.

Mike, Thank you very much! Appreciate it. Wasn't all that thrilled with what I got, but it will have to do until I get the chance for a longer visit. Hope that the next time I can get down below the Rim. John

These are magnificent. I imagine the live experience was even more so!
RE, Thank you very much for your kind comments! I don't mind at all. I was shooting with a Nikon D7200 and a kit lens 18 - 140 mm. Virtually all of the shots were taken with the lens set at 18 mm. Even then, I found the angle of view not wide enough. A zoom in the 12 - 18 mm size would have been better. The GC is such a spectacular place and what I mostly captured with my lens was not what I saw with my eyes. I shoot on Auto and Aperture Priority (f8 - f11) with an ISO of 200 or 400 depending on the light. Unfortunately, I don't recall exactly where I took the second shot. There are a number of lookout points along the trail, but they were very crowded, so I just walked along the trail, looking over the edge and shooting when I found a spot that looked promising. I hope this at least partially answers your questions.

Carol, Thank you very much! Yes, my trip to Utah and the GC was one that I will cherish for a long time. It is an absolutely spectacular place that I hope to revisit and hike in the not too distant future.
