It's interesting but doesn't feel quite abstract enough - or maybe "dynamic" is the word I'm looking for? By rotating so the wing is angling to upper right, I get quite a fascinating (to my eye) result.

I agree Linda but theres not enough room in the original to do what Id like with it - so here's a better option....come in a bit from the bottom left is you wish, but don't spoil that elongated leg!

Oooooh, I like this one a lot! The "missing" bits of bird add to the interest IMO. I also like the little bump in the land on left, and consequent slope. Much more implied motion of taking flight.

Weirded out my mind for a second, then I liked what you did, especially your revision.

Alright for you, David! You have put me in a deep mind warp out of which I am having @n embarrassing period of time emerging.

Howzabout a bit of step-by-step explication of how you did this. I’m close to deciding that the heron never was a reflection but you made him into one.??

Please?

Dave

Yes, it’s a better image than the original post I reckon Bob.

Like me Dave, it’s simple! I was taking reflections of the heron as he moved about on the bank of a small stream. I didn’t want him in it, just the reflection. Suddenly he very kindly decided he needed to be in the water and fluttered down. All I had to do was turn the reflection upside down in pp.

I like the original. Of all the wonderful tack sharp bird photos I've seen on this sight and in my club, Something like this is what I would prefer to have on my wall. This is not at all a slight against bird photographers. I know how difficult it is to get a well exposed beautifully crisp and sharp image. I love those; but this type of shot appeals to my emotions more. I think the original is marvelous.

A sort of reprise for all those bif photos perhaps Erich? I like them both but the second one is more dynamic, which I prefer. Of course some might think I missed the proper shot by not going for the bird itself.

Took me a while to figure it out, and for me, having to figure it out stole the surprise. I could see it wasn't a reflection as the trailing water droplets showed, but also the head of the bird would have been seen from upside down. A shame, as I feel some work went into this.

Excellent experimentation with positive results Dave !!! The mystery in this keeps one wondering, but for me, should remain a mystery. It does take some getting use to, for example, when first viewing of a dark (underexposed) image) and waiting for the eye adjustment to determine proper exposure. Hope that makes sense. If not, it's still
excellent experimentation with positive results and I DO like this.

Afraid it is a simple reflection John! The bird was up on a bank, hence no sign of him in the reflection (well, none to speak of - in the original post there was a bit of his foot I think), but in the second and a whole series I took he was actually a couple of feet up a bank. Those trailing water drops made me think for while - even though it was me that took it and turned it upside down. Thanking for commenting, it’s appreciated.

I think most of us took a moment or two to get our heads round it Dave - including me!

Its the sort of work where ones friends offer words of encouragement and beyond that one often meets a stony silence. I always say thank God for friends and if it pleases you then carry on doing it.
