I don't think it is weird, I see the rule of 1/3rds and I can see how the 3 deffer layers of colours depict the 2 layers of the land and the sky. Very nice.

Well, I've never seen such rendering (my attempts are for realism; I have no sense of "art"), nor do I understand the reference to 3 layers and 2 layers. Please explain for us color challenged.
