Scan of "Computer Cat"

I just hooked up a newly acquired film scanner to start digitizing some of my old slides & negatives. I bought a Plustek Opticfilm 8100 and have the supplied Silverfast scanning software as well as a purchased copy of Vuescan. I can see by the results that I have to overcome a learning curve to get comfortable as well as the results expected. This is a scan of a Kodachrome slide from Oct 1986. To the naked eye, the slide is nowhere as flat as the scan results and there is certainly more detail available in the image. The results look kind of washed out and this photo is minimally processed. I've got far too many slides in boxes and slide trays to consider sending them off to be processed so I'll play with them as time permits.
Will process a negative next to see the results.

Nothing but first class equipment in this shot: IBM XT, DOS3.0, 20MB Segate ST225 & an advanced 1.2MB 5.25" floppy drive. Those were the days.

If anyone has any recommendations for the scanner/software combo I have, please send them along. I already know I have some touchup to do on this image as this simply a "down & dirty" (Literally) scan.
